Malaysia is considering reopening its borders amid expectations that the country's interstate travel ban will be lifted next month, according to Muhyiddin Yassin, head of the National Recovery Council.

Ministers will meet this week to debate whether fully vaccinated Malaysians should be allowed to travel overseas, as well as whether tourists and business travellers should be allowed to enter the nation, according to Tan Sri Muhyiddin, who chaired a meeting with the council on Monday.

He stated that the subject would be brought to the Prime Minister's attention and that a statement would be made soon.

Mr Muhyiddin added at the news conference that Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin assured the council that 90 percent of the adult population would be immunised as soon as early October.
This would allow interstate travel to resume by the middle of October.

As of Monday, 84.4 percent of adults have received all of their vaccines.
That same day, the country added 10,959 infections, the fewest in more than two months.

Mr Muhyiddin posted on Facebook late Monday, "The National Recovery Council is satisfied with the briefing on the Covid-19 case updates and rate of ICU (intensive care unit) bed use by Khairy Jamaluddin, which are showing a decline."
