One assumes that the annotation "maximum" (on the right) denotes maximum cooling, so wind it up to 9.

 

If in doubt get a freezer thermometer to check it's cold enough.

Or spend a few nights inside the freezer and change temperature each day at 5am precise.

That's theway I look at it, but, I have a wife who can't decide whether the 'arrow' means warmer or colder.

Page 9 refers to temp settings.

 

Googled it.

Confirms my thoughts.  Setting to 9 is coldest.

Edit.

Old freezer was the other way around, coldest on left.  SWMBO was the one who was tending to think this new one worked the same way.

I always turn everything up to 11

It depends on the appliance.

If something's supposed to get something hot then the arrow direction means hotter and if something is meant to get colder than the arrow direction means colder
