Popular Post barry553
I'm going to move back to the UK soon and I am not concerned about the OP's post one bit. Everyone knows taxis are expensive. I never need to use them. I prefer eating homemade food and so the higher priced eating out doesn't concern me. The price of food is about the same but the quality is far higher. Buying 2nd had cars are much cheaper, schools are free etc. The best thing about it is I can earn 3 times as much money and won't feel like a criminal every time I visit immigration. Plenty of places to retire back in USA. Weather never an issue, and actually enjoy the change of seasons, along with if wanting warm, live in the south of USA. Way too big, and if you can't find a place that suits, then it isn't the location that's the problem. But there are so many Americans over there ... ???? gearbox
4 hours ago, Pravda said: This is really a sad comparison. So the price of Chinese takeout and rent is cheaper. But the wages are also higher in UK. I'm sure people don't work there for 350 baht an hour. Prices in Bangkok are not 40 pounds a night in a 5 star hotel. These are covid prices. Hilton and other known chains used to cost 100 pounds per night. It this continues soon there won't be any hotels left which I am really not looking forward to. Because when there is less competition the price goes up and the quality drops, especially here. The whole post is about prices, but when I go to Canada I find the prices of quality food cheaper than in Thailand. The only thing more expensive is rent and transport. But even that is debatable as rent in nicer Bangkok condos is actually more expensive if you do 1:1 comparison. Many condos here are boxes with no real kitchen, no bathtub and zero closet space. You want that you have to rent a premium Bangkok condo which goes for well over 2000 pounds a month unless you rent in old building full of cockroaches. There can't be any comparison between Thailand and Canada...the Canadian summer is 1 week, the Thai summer is 52 weeks... I have a friend who used to live in Edmonton(Deadmonton), I can't figure out how anyone voluntarily would go and live there.

Sure, I take your point. Value is definitely relative to an individual's perspective. And from my perspective at least, I really do think Bangkok offers good value as a second home base. Vibrant city, lots of things to do, diversity and quality of many of the amenities exceeds Vancouver, and all of that for what I consider to be excellent value relative to the other cities that I'd considered as a second home (Hong Kong, Seoul, Singapore). Sometimes I wonder if the different perspectives on Thailand here are just largely due to differences in personalities and lifestyle preferences.

Popular Post WhiteBuffaloATM
Divorced and Left UK twenty years ago….. literally a hundred reasons……ended up settled in Phuket, whilst working worldwide. Life Great in UK. IF you are a cash millionaire. Found UK SEast increasing miserable throughout the 90’s. High Cost / High Tax / High Pollution / High Congestion / High Stress / High Debt. Rubbish Cold Wet Weather. Knife Crime Everywhere. Commuting in Metal Coffin three hours daily.Little Time for Health (Diet & Exercise). Nearly All in Heavy Consumer Debt & One Paycheck from Destitution.Pension Pot halved by Financial Crashes or Stolen by Crooked Owners. Buyer Beware is Universal. Thailand SAFE, CHEAP, Healthy, Quiet, Tropical, Idyllic, Very Low Tax / Low Stress, High Quality Lifestyle. Property often around 10% UK prices. Huge Advantage right there. Easy to Eat Fresh Produce & Exercise Daily. Pool Villa Seaview bought for same price as three bed semi in some crappy uk suburb. 10

Popular Post EricTh
@PizzaBoi A common mistake is that people always compare the prices of different countries after converting their currencies. Please note that Thai people do NOT earn as much as in UK. British people earn 3000 GBP which is about 140,000 baht in Thailand. Average Thai people earn around 30,000 baht per month. Most earn only around 15,000 baht per month. To Thai people, prices are expensive in Thailand when compared to their wages. Popular Post WhiteBuffaloATM
Biggest Advantage living in UK SEast is the MASSIVE Capital Gains on Property and Free HealthCare, BUT you must endure the described misery of living there, Avoid Divorce ( Very Hard) and THEN SELL and leave with your Gains to Buy Property and Enjoy Healthy Climate, in say Thailand. Almost Nobody Does That though…..they hang on to property, living in or renting out, downsize elsewhere in UK upon retirement ….. then sicken / die from the rotten climate by age 70 …. all the benefit going to the younger waiting relatives …… 4
