I found this video by  chance.

This really works, as I already tried it out on a calculator.

I now  a few years after below photo have a similar looking problem with the  LCD display  on my motorbike...not sure its quite so easy to remove the display from the printed circuit board though.

Probably it's not too difficult to remove it. But it might be difficult to get it precisely together again... ????

Yes, on some equipment the removal and assembly may be difficult. But, if the device has come to the stage of replacement due to this issue, why not give it a try!

Yes I fully agree and will try  when the readout becomes worse than it is..at the moment it's quite noticeable but not bad enough to make the speedo unusable..just don't fancy trying to unsolder those 2 long rows of pins.
