What if you don't have it? Do they send you back on the plane you arrived on? Or maybe keep you locked in your hotel room until you've set a go fund me page and have the money?

If you don't "have it" you won't get on the plane; "it" being insurance. If you haven't done your due diligence and obtained insurance that covers this eventuality that's on you and yes you'll be out of pocket, call it an IQ tax.

Where does it say on the government website that you must do 10 days quarantine even if you test negative?

That has nothing to do with your initial post that I replied to but in any case, see above re due diligence - in these times if someone doesn't find out exactly what they are getting themselves into it's on them.

I have my insurance and QR code at the ready for my long term stay, but what about those that are coming for a 2 week holiday? Can't see them being too happy spending 10 days of their 14 locked up.

Not going to be good for the reputation of the TOT is it.

No argument there. But the reality is out there for everyone to see and it's up to them how risk averse they are. What is the alternative for the Thai government; let a potentially infected person, who may even have a new strain, wander around on the off-chance they will be fine or do the right thing if start to get symptoms?

I think the policy of only those closest to a positive result being held is a good compromise all things considering.

Interesting.  I wonder where you are expected to quarantine if you test positive and for how long?  I've just checked my travel policy and I'm covered for additional room costs if I'm instructed to quarantine to a maximum of £2000 - 90,000 baht.  More than adequate if such quarantine is at a hotel but if its at a hospital, who knows?

During the quarantine phase people where hauled off to the hospital associated with the hotel. Most reports seemed to be around 10 days. Have seen "hospitels" mentioned since but personally haven't read any reports on them. If off to a hospital for 10 days, I think 90K Bht cover may leave you out of pocket a little ... all depends how they are going to handle things from now on.

Well, not that I expect them to be sensible but given that your infectious status is unknown on arrival and they see fit to isolate you in a hotel, it would surely seem appropriate (sensible) for you to stay in a hotel, providing you are asymptomatic?  If you have symptoms your medical cover would kick in - mine's £15 million so no worries on that.

Yes, I think I would be a little short if I have to quarantine in hospital - my hotel's partnered with Bumrungrad!!! If I test positive with no symptoms and I'm taken there, I'll just have to start shivering and sneezing - (pepper) ????.

I have no idea how much other people's quarantine cover is for but I didn't pick the cheapest and its with the biggest travel insurer in the UK so I would think £2000 is pretty standard. Existing or older policies may have more cover but I would think a lot of insurers are 'adjusting' their cover for Covid 19 so new policies may have less/restricted cover.

555 not the first to suggest that tactic.

When I was looking before pretty sure the policies covered it fully, but not UK based and it was health rather than travel policies I was looking at. I posted a while back the prices that a few people reported getting charged, of the top of my head can't remember all of them but one was 110K (remember that one because it was a story with a "happy ending" - guy tested positive day 1, off to hospital, fight with insurance as asymptomatic, won, released after 10 days, 5 days earlier than if he tested negative and got a full refund from the ASQ hotel - win!).

Of the 40 K applicants, it will be interesting to see just how many will transition into actual arrivals.

Many will apply, just hedging bets on their Vacation destination, and with it being a buyers market, they will play it out until the last minute for actual Flights Etc.

On a more selfish approach, I wonder how many, out of these 40,000, have (will) received the result of their application and the timeframe for the response.

I have applied, got the email of confirmation and still waiting for the status.

Mind you it went from 3-5 days (or within a week) to  3-5  working days 7 up to "The result of your registration will be sent to this email within 7 working days" (avoid submitting on November, Thursday the 18th if you are in a hurry... 7 working days falls on Monday the 29th or the following day, the same month)

When I complete the online TA application form can I submit 2 or 3 files for one question?

I found a way to convert basic or PDF files to JPEG files but it leaves each page (3 pages) as 3 separate JPEG files and they are in a WIN ZIP file, and I can't find a way to combine the 3 single JPEG pages into 1 easily accessed JPEG file. Hence my question just above.

Thanks.

As a foreword - I'm aware that 'certain things' can be done that would allow me to obtain full health insurance in Thailand.  I've been offered it but I was also told that it would be for the purpose of providing the correct paperwork only - I would probably not be able to claim on such a policy because one of the first things the company would require in the event of a claim would be sight of my visa.  To get bona fide health insurance policy you have to be legally resident in the country where its issued. Their may be some specialist policies that vary that condition but as I will explain, Health Insurance is out for me.

There is then the potential of one of the specific Covid 19 policies being marketed to tourists but there is still confusion that needs to be clarified, over the Thai authorities statement that 'Health Insurance' is now required whereas previously they asked for Covid 19 insurance.

I had Covid in March 2020 - I believe I contracted it whilst travelling between Thailand and Vietnam. Therefore, despite being fully vaccinated and accepting that there is a low risk of being infected, I am firmly of the belief that I will be most at risk, no matter how low that may be, whilst travelling in a narrow aluminium tube and passing through major transport hubs.  I decided then, that if I was going to travel and had to be insured, I wanted travel insurance that covered me for Covid and many other things - there's been a lot of travel disruption in recent months etc. etc.

Taking account of the as yet unanswered question of what the Thai authorities mean by 'Health Insurance' I decided that I would look into Travel Insurance with full medical cover including Covid 19. I didn't think however, that I could get affordable Travel Insurance because I have cancer and when I've looked at Health Insurance before, I've been quoted very high premiums (even though anything related to my illness is excuded).  They don't seem to apply the same draconian thinking to Travel Insurance as I was quoted what I believe to be a very fair price for a multi-trip policy and took it out. I've travelled to Thailand for over 20 years, probably more than 120 trips and since diagnosis 6 years ago, that's been without insurance.

So, that's a rather long winded way of explaining why I've gone for the insurance that I have.  I can get Health Insurance with travel cover that may give me better cover for quarantine in the UK but the price of that (for me) is prohibitive.  There's only a slim chance of me testing positive on arrival in Thailand so hopefully all of this will be academic. As a failsafe, I'll be taking some pepper with me.

No, especially when they get back home and the story gets in the newspapers - own goal Thailand.

Single, unless they hear people concerns and fix the issue!

Jesus! My travel insurance schedule is 9 pages and the policy booklet is 44 pages.  I can probably shed a lot of that but the relevant information is spread over at least 6 pages.

I may have missed it but are we saying that all files must be uploaded in Jpeg format?  I have an electronic version of my insurance but its in password protected PDF format - I see problems, good job I'm not travelling until the end of December.

Dumb not accepting PDFs IMO, I have a theory why they've gone that way so not sure if they will tweak the system but the way it is now certainly causes way more hassle than necessary.

Right, anyone know of a way of contacting them to advise of the problems with their system?  I might shrink all my insurance pages, insert them into text boxes in Word or column the page and insert them.....scan it and send. 555

Would your theory involve bandwidth and cost?

Nope, was thinking more along the lines of automation (scan and recognise) but if they are doing that with images don't see why they couldn't with a PDF (and if they couldn't with a PDF, easy enough to insert a script after upload to auto convert - possibly leaves the issue of multiple files generated but not insurmountable; from my perspective it's part of a devs job to make things as easy as possible for users).

I think they're getting feedback (no idea how to contact them) as they've already fixed the J&J issue.

They will look at a one page summary, my insurance company (Thai insurance company) is aware of this and now issues the relevant one page summary along with all the very detailed pages.

I had concerns about the same point, In search of answers I e.mailed a copy of the one page summary to the ministry of Foreign Affairs, not really expecting a reply.

I got lucky, they replied within a few hours, and confirmed the one page summary was totally acceptable for the TP application and also commented that I should include a scan of the receipt. And must be a JPEG file.

Opening up in name only.

Covid19 is endemic in Thailand anyway.

From now on even if there is no international tourism there is going to be a massive surge in cases in the country, which will be mitigated according to how many people have been vaccinated.

What a completely pointless exercise!

Thanks for that - there is no one page summary on my insurance, I'll have to ask for one.  So now they want a copy of the receipt for payment or does it say that on the Thailand Pass application?

My hotel also want a copy of my passport, flight ticket, insurance and vaccine certificate and its taken 4 e-mails from me to get their bank details for payment.

I'll put up with all this hoop jumping and take the Exemption from Quarantine with 1 night's Quarantine, sorry, waiting but only because I have connections to Thailand - house, wife etc and I'd suggest most of those currently applying for Thailand Pass are much the same. If they seriously think normal tourists will accept all this, they are deluded.

I feel very sad for what's left of the Thai tourist industry who will be hoping this re-opening will be their saviour.
