Experience: Sydney to Bangkok (BKK) trip departing 4 Nov 2021

Featured Replies

Thai Pass:
Kept saying successful when using my hotmail address but never received confirmation
Finally confirmation after using gmail (2 Nov 2pm)
Approved via email containing QR pdf (3 Nov 9:36am)

At Sydney airport:
Syd Staff:
Will check docs required for the Thai Pass
Will want to see physical copies, or ask you to print (took me around 10mins as she wanted to see specific insurance clause against COVID, also i think i really overpaid with Covermore Insurance $250 as other tourists appeared to just buy local thai travel insurance!)

Thai airways staff:
Will double check same docs

At BKK airport:
Once landed, before immigration, will have you sit down and check your docs
If have Thai pass, will prioritise you and move you ahead (took me around 3mins)

At immigration:
Will mainly check your hotel booking

After immigration:
Collect bags

After exiting baggage collection:
Can't leave the airport except through a SHA+/QA hotel organised taxi or the Airport's Limousine taxi booking (not limousine just a normal car)
Cost me 1.2k!! For a trip which would ordinarily cost around thb 250

At hotel (SHA+):
will check in then go to your room
A nurse will take a swab test
You can't leave the room until test results back in around 12h (but i think you could just walk out tbh)
My result was available at around 5am when i called reception

Bangkok morning:
- everyone wearing masks
- can't enter shopping centre before 10am
- can't buy alcohol or be served anywhere before 11am
-most shops closed
-considerable but insignificant foot traffic
-worringly low matches with tinder freelancers (but that might be just me)

Sounds great! A marvellous set of new experiences.

Must try it some time.

Thanks for the first hand impressions! Very helpful post.
