Popular Post webfact
Picture: Daily News Thailand's Transport Minister Saksayam Chidchob was upbeat yesterday telling Daily News that everything was going well in the country's reopening. Saksayam said that there had now been 100,000 arrivals since the country more fully reopened on November 1st. And of these arrivals in the last 25 days less than 1 in a thousand had Covid. He suggested that from here on in things would only get better and that "at least 8 million tourists would come to Thailand in 2022". Daily News didn't rain on Saksayam's parade by mentioning in a "normal November" well over 3 million tourists would have been expected to come into Thailand. Or that 40 million tourists arrived in 2019. Instead they allowed the minister to waffle on about an upcoming meeting called the "Thai Aviation Industry Conference 2021" at a central Bangkok hotel on December 13th. And tell them that Thailand was committed to ensuring that CO2 emissions from the airline industry were within acceptable limits after requests for the industry to provide data. I hear that in Thailand you can take " suggestions" and predictions to bank, because it seems that every dick tom and harry are now days predicting and suggesting arrivals numbers.. The good news is that Thailand is considering using Antigen tests for all incoming instead the dreaded, costly PCR test, NOW, that will be a good step in the right direction...
Popular Post Gottfrid
What? Is it 8 million today? I can recall that I read an estimation of 18 million arrivals just 1 - 2 weeks ago. However, let´s hope that value of the baht sinks with the same percentage. 4
Popular Post mikebell
The photo seems to show ONE farang with possibly 2 Thai family members. Extrapolate that over 100,000 arrivals and there are only a few foreign teetotalers trying to avoid a Euro/US winter.

Popular Post Misterwhisper
Yawn. This constant dissemination of dreamt-up figures by all sorts of ministers and officials really is getting stale.
Popular Post ThailandRyan
Artived in Hua Hin yesterday for a break from BKK. There is no alcohol allowed in restaurants here unfortunately...lol. During check-in two British gents that came for a two week holiday were a little upset when they found this out. They had flown in and entered Thailand for a two week holiday using the test n go scheme. They told the gal checking them in they came here for the quietness instead of Phuket but were assured they could drink by the pool, on the beach and in the restaurants prior to booking and leaving their home country. One of them became boisterous and threw a fit and wanted to cancel. They were told they would get all but 3 days back. They were unhappy but took it, told the lady they were driving to Phuket instead and drove away. This Vacation will be something they obviously tell their friends about they told the gal as they left. This is a problem,Thailand's view from outside is that it is fully opened, but it is not. This will keep many from coming to places outside of those areas that are opened for drinking but not in bars or entertainment places. I think TAT is way off on their figures.

asiasurfer
Figures stumped out of the ground as usual. Although TAT numbers represent a lot of wishful thinking and gross nonsense at times, one must appreciate that it is really difficult to predict anything in these times. E.g.new variants etc... However, Corona has helped me to adapt some sense of Thai thinking approach: Don't think too mut. At least no further than tomorrow. Cheers

It is a bit counter-intuitive, but this is actually what we want - a super spreading variant, but one that does not kill you or make you terribly sick. If we had a variant that "crowded out" all of the others, but was less "lethal", we could get past this pandemic.
