OP - I also sometimes have video downloads that are in reverse - any help please

Are the subtitles "baked in" to the video? ie you can't switch them off/on.

 

If so then it's possible that the whole movie has been flipped at the point of recording. I know some people do this to avoid copyright detections on some video sharing sites.

 

If this is the case, then you can use VLCs filters to flip the video back.
