Thailand’s Disease Control Department has published basic information about the new coronavirus variant, Omicron, so the public can monitor for physical symptoms. The initial symptoms include muscle pain and fatigue, but not serious, and the patients do not lose their sense of smell or taste, as in the case of infection by other variants.

Omicron spreads quickly and can reproduce faster than the “wild” coronavirus strains. There is no information yet about its severity, its incubation period, vaccine effectiveness or its immunity evasion capability.

Meanwhile, Head of the Centre of Excellence of Clinical Virology at Chulalongkorn University Dr. Yong Poovorawan offered advice on precautionary measures to cope with Omicron which, he predicted, will replace the Delta variant as the dominant strain in the near future.

Visa-compliant insurance plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m

Even the girls at my local bar get the joke - they refer to this dreaded new humanity extinction level variant as Ohmygod.

Was that while he was training his throat muscles to resist the ingress of the virus.

Well , that does not sound too bad ...

Less dangerous , but more infectious , and will replace the Delta Variant ...

If Omicron turns out to be harmless , or like a flu , life could go back to the 'old' normal again ... hopefully .

'Less dangerous'

This is a hope rather than a truth at this stage.

Yep.

It does sound like it's time to concentrate on the hospitalised cases rather than the infected numbers.  Has a corner been turned?

Time will tell.

Maybe it's mild which is good, but it's not so good news if children below 5 are hospitalized more often with this variant compared to the other variants.

No parent want to see their baby in a hospital no matter how mild the new mutation is.

In many hospitals you are not allowed to visit the ones with covid infections unless they are terminal,  and if that is the same case with the kids i can't imagine it must be fun for a kid to be left in a hospital bed, with no parent being able to visit them.

Not fun for the parents too.

Uh-huh.

Some of us aren't buying into the latest sensational promotions and fear mongering towards the same old revised edition.

Their spin and pitches have deterred to a similar twist, yet not recognized as such to the masses.

Hypnotic suggestion - over and again - is what they do well.

Uh oh symptoms are the same as working out for the first time after a few months off!

Can someone explain why as this virus mutates it tends to become more infectious and less deadly?  Is there any type of precedent like this in nature for other viruses?  Did the common cold end up following this trend or is it that coronavirus completely different to COVID-19?

It boggles my mind how a virus would mutate in order to survive in its host for as long as possible.  A virus that kills its host ends up killing itself.

I am going to take Lord Fauci's  advice!  Good diet, good sleep, exercise, and NO alcohol or smoking.
