Grandline Group (GLG), a South Korean record label, issued a statement today saying that is to keep its Thai artist Sitala Wongkrachang as a member of its new girl group “H1-KEY”, after the controversy over her and her family’s role in Thai politics.

#SITALA was trending on Thailand’s twitter last week, with millions of tweets alleging that the artist’s family, especially her father Sarunyu Wongkrachang, are supporters of Thailand’s undemocratic regime. GLG responded today saying that, after much consideration, it cannot hold Sitala accountable for her father’s past decisions and actions, which are beyond her responsibility.

The record label acknowledged the concerns raised by Thai fans and considered Thailand’s context before coming to the conclusion. It emphasised that, though Sitala had cited her father as a role model, it was based upon his parenting and profession, not political views or actions.

A bit vague.  What exactly is she referring too ? That he gave her everything she asked for or what.

because they have invested too much time and money into developing her as an artist and wound really like to recoup said investment.

Well said, she'll be judged on her actions and her performances, not on what her father may or may not have done.

This is her career path, nothing to do with family.

The true answer though has been stated.  It has noting to do with her per se it has more to do with the money they have spoent putting these girls together, grooming them, the vocal and dance lessons that they have gone through as well as the conditioning.  Remember all these K pop acts are just farm fed canned entertainment they are not really musicians or singers.

Koreans and young Thais like eye candy that dances and prances on stage.

That may be true, they're manufactured.

But having said that there are a million wannabe's fighting to be selected to get into a group and on stage.

To get there you have to have fought tooth and nail and have some abilities.

Granted some are just eye candy, but those that can sing/dance or play instruments go on the have solo careers after the group fades away.

The candy is soon gone, but if you follow K-Pop singers like Ailee etc you'll soon see talent.

You don't have to. Nobody said you should hold her dad accountable for HER actions. Hold HER accountable. SHE was at these pro-coup events as well, not only her dad. SHE held pro-coup speeches. SHE waved pro-coup banners.

But I understand that - as always - it's really a matter of the large investment you have poured into developing and promoting her pop group. When money is involved, ethics fly out the window. In South Korea just as much as in Thailand. In fact anywhere in the world.
