Thailand on Saturday (December 11) reported 4,079 new COVID-19 cases, 7,302 recoveries and 39 additional deaths over the past 24 hours.

▶︎ Infections outside prisons: 4,060. Prisons: 19

▶︎ Recoveries: 7,302

▶︎ Total infections since April 1: 2,135,996

▶︎ Total recoveries since since April 1: 2,062,827

Saturday’s cases bring the total number of COVID-19 infections in Thailand to 2,164,859 with 21,151 deaths.

The news comes as researchers will adjust Thailand’s first plant-based Covid-19 vaccine to fight against the Omicron variant.

Co-founder and chief technology officer of Baiya Phytopharm Dr. Waranyu Pooncharoen said that the first generation of Baiya Covid-19 vaccine has already been injected in volunteers aged between 18 and 60. So far there are no reports of any severe side effects, and researchers are waiting for more results before testing the second generation of the vaccine on volunteers next month.

Dr. Waranyu stated that researchers are currently testing the vaccine's efficacy in animals infected with the Omicron variant and will modify the vaccine's protein formula to make it more responsive to the new variant.

Real world data just published in the UK says the vaccine effectiveness against symptomatic infection against Omicron is ZERO for AZ and only 30% for Pfizer, booster for Pfizer brings it back up to around 75% in the first month. It was too early to predict the effectiveness on serious illness or death but they hope that will remain intact.

I guess we will be expecting lots more arrivals into Thailand with Omicron if those figures hold true.

3 million to go and 20 days to do it in. That's 150k a day, and if they are averaging below that number there will be no way to get to the number before January.

And down we go again wondering what the next day will bring?? A small drop from 92 previously reported.
