missed periods after Plan B

Featured Replies

Is it normal for a woman in her late 30's to completely miss 1 period and being late on the current one(which is supposed to come this weekend), after taking Plan B?

Several pregnancy urine tests, taken more than 1 month after sexual intercourse and at least 1 week after the expected period, all came negative.

Even 2 blood beta HCG test, latest one, performed last week, came with undetectable levels of HCG.

Is USG advisable, just for piece of mind?

If so, could someone tell more about prices?'

Sheryl, are you there?

Yes, it can happen. The medication can disrupt the menstrual cycle. Though the disuption is usually not for more than 1 cycle.

If she does not menstruate within say another 7-10 days then a Gyn exam with ultrasound is good idea, not so much to rule out pregnancy (highly unlikely with negative urine and blood tests) but to rule out other problems such as cystic ovaries.

At a private hospital gyn exam usually around 1,000 - 1,500 baht (inclusive of hospital add-on fee) and ultrasound an extra 2-3,000.

If she is Thai she can get this done for free at the government or SS hospital where she is registered.
