Or indeed Pattaya. My goal is to get either a second extension to my Thailand Pass or some other visa in order to stay in Thailand an additional 2-4 weeks. Which Immigration office is easiest to deal with and in what way?

I will save boring you with details.

How did you enter Thailand?

What is expiry date of current permission of stay.

"Boring details" are important.

Including current location.

What type of extension are you seeking.

Very vague OP.

1. By air from Canda via Japan(transit only)

2. Jan. 9,2022

3. Surin, but could be going to Bangkok soon

4. Any extensionthat simplifies coming *back* into Thailand mid-February for 7-10 days

The challenge is that all these visit programs (visas, PCR tests etc) tie one down, if for no other reason that after considerable expense and procedure one does not want to go through so much and have to repeat for mere days.

What are business travellers doing? I mean those who can't put everything on hold until pandemic is over? In Turkey and Ukraine (and Dubai) despite lockdowns life pretty much went on as normal.

Just picking this to quote.

I did not mean transport.

Being Canadian visa exempt entry is available. For such a short trip (business) I assume you entered visa exempt. To exit and reenter Thailand you can purchase reentry permit. Or enter again visa exempt.

It will involve lot of paperwork and even short trip from Thailand to Cambodia and back has hurdles.

No different to folk coming for much longer periods.

Push it BACK if possible.

Cannot outsource some of responsibilities?

Looks like it might be simpler to just go to Cambodia when my stay expires Jan. 9 (er, day before I believe is the law) then deal with returning to Thailand after our work of sorts is done in Cambodia. Maybe by February life will be back to normal for Thai tourism? After all Cambodia is ahead in vaccination which explains their relaxed entry requirements.

But do I understand you correctly that there is a way for me to apply while here in Thailand for a re-entry permit in advance?

With any permission of stay (admitted until date in passport) you can protect that with reentry permit.

You can buy that at airport.

At BKK that is at zone 2 just after security check and before passport control.

Single reentry is 1000baht.

This path would require you to obtain extension before exit from Thailand. Only makes sense if you plan to stay in Thailand after your trip to Cambodia.

You state.....

"Maybe by February life will be back to normal for Thai tourism?"

I'm sorry is that a joke. Google world latest covid news. In past week Vietnam has been having ~14k new cases per day with 200+ deaths. That's just ASEAN.

Tourism normal by Feb is wet dream.

Indeed I do plan to visit Thailand after Cambodia . But that re-entry date would have to be before the expiry of my temporary stay stamp, yes? So, I couldn't exit the day before (Jan.8) my stay expires (Jan.9) and pay THB1000 to return on Feb. 7 for a week.

Never heard of such an option before, probably because with free 30-day transit visa on arrival there was never a need pre-COVID.

And regarding Thailand making dramatic progress in vaccination why would the COVID infection rates of other ASEAN nations affect Thailand?
