Pattaya preparing for “New Year’s Seven Days of Danger” traffic program

Pattaya – The Pattaya City Police is preparing to set up multiple checkpoints for the annual ‘Seven Days of Danger’ road safety campaign for the New Year which will start next week.

 

The Pattaya City Police Chief Colonel Kunlachart Kunlachai told The Pattaya News, “The seven days of danger for this New Year’s festival will be from December 28th to January 3rd.”

 

“Pattaya City Police, Pattaya Tourist Police, Banglamung district officers, and volunteers will patrol around the Pattaya area.”

 

“Multiple checkpoints will be set on the main roads. Our main checkpoint for this coming Seven Days of Danger campaign in Pattaya will be in front of the Big C store in South Pattaya on Sukhumvit.”

Thailand is about to get more road deaths than tourist arrivals a day soon.

judging by the huge number of parked motorbikes around all the open drinking venues every night - drink driving is rampant and that goes for foreigners and Thais, I really hope many are caught

I think 7 days is a bit low!  It is more like particularly in Pattaya 365 days!????

Does this mean we will catch a glimpse of that rare breed; Pattaya Plod?  They have been singularly missing on the roads for at least two years.  Now they are about to emerge in full daylight to draw a week's overtime for staring at their phones.

Seen them on the Railway line bypass Rd, Northbound a couple of time lately.....  didn't wave me over though surprisingly.

'Checkpoints' in this country; meeting places for Cops to socialise whilst sitting on their Butt's for the most part with the Booze under a table and the empty metal mugs to pour it into.  And all this on Overtime !

I used to see them doing traffic duty on Rot Fai junctions like Kao Noi/Talo during rush hour.  Then this singular proof of their existence disappeared.  I assumed they'd been deployed to beat up students in Bangkok.

As ever barking up the wrong tree - the accident rate is usually LOWER over this period.

BTW - the OP photo shows a commercial vehicle which is banned over the holiday period
