RTP warn: Call center gangs getting more sophisticated with fake warrants

Deputy RTP spokesman Pol Col Siriwat Deephor warned the Thai public that call center gangs are getting more sophisticated with fake warrants.

For some time now it has been the ruse of call center gangs to contact people to say they are being investigated for crimes often in connection with drugs.

They are then threatened with prosecution if they don't pay tea money to allegedly bent officials to get them off the hook.

The reality is there are only criminals posing as Thai officials and increasingly they are using fake warrants to convince the gullible to pay up.

Pol Col Deephor told INN the ways to spot a fake warrant that included going on the RTP website to check details.

if the top 100 "hire to shoot" are former and active police officers, so this scam is also run by corrupted by

officials in uniform.

impersonating police officer is a serious crime with serious sentences. I would think not many "genuine" criminals would get into that line.

Being an avid supporter of the free markets, I'd rather be ripped off by a scammer than a genuine BIB.

At least the scammer is displaying an entrepreneurial mindset and undoubtedly putting in more effort then the actual copper franchisee.

The only reason why this scam is working so well is that the modus operandi (including the threats and the blackmailing) used by "fake" and "genuine" bent officials and police officers alike is virtually identical.
