Water Purifier for Ice maker

Featured Replies

We're getting a new refrige with an ice maker. Is it worth it putting a water purifier inline? I don't want spend a lot of money on this. Ice is cheap, like me.

Any suggestions appreciated.

If you are happy to drink your mains water then why bother with a filter?

Otherwise you should be able to plumb in a small RO unit.

"I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"

Depends on the water quality from the mains, do you drink it?

I am continually amazed at folks that will spend $$$ on water filters without even knowing if there is anything that needs filtering.  We buy 20l bottles for 10 baht even though the mains water is (supposed to be) potable.  I just don't trust the people in charge of that.

And how do you ascertain that your purchased water is any better/different than other the main water?

I don't. There is regular testing by the local gov.  I don't trust the mains, even though no smell or color, because the lot that takes care of that can't even keep the pressure regular. On almost daily basis the pressure goes from good to nothing and that bothers me about quality.

I maybe should have added, we're moving into a new house in Rawai. I don't know about the water quality but I don't know anyone who drinks the water out of the tap, anywhere in Thailand. I can't imagine making ice from unpurified water but I'll ask around.

I see there are water purifiers at reasonable prices.

If I were installing a fridge with an icemaker I would would install a good RO filter if for no other reason than to get nice, clear ice.

RO gets a bad press for drinking water but ice? I'll check into it. Thanks
