webfact
Picture: Thai Rath Khanom police in Nakhon Sri Thammarat in southern Thailand were called after a collision between a Mercedes Benz and two motorcycles. They found a dead colleague at the scene. He was Pol Capt Praphat Malithip, aged 42, who was on his way to get food after midnight. Also dead at the scene was a lady called Amornrat, 31. Sarawut,34, was taken to hospital and is out of danger. The driver of the Benz was waiting at the scene to surrender. He was breath tested and found to be over the limit and was charged with vehicular homicide and other serious offences. He is the wealthy owner of a raft area rented for fishing. He admitted to being out drinking then losing control of his car, according to the Thai Rath report. Police said their colleague was driving one of the motorcycles and the man who survived the other. It was not yet sure who the dead woman was riding with. Funeral rites for the dead policeman - a local man - began yesterday afternoon following his death in the previous night. Popular Post PJPom
First thoughts, the driver acted correctly, maybe a tragic accident and he accepts his wrongdoing, second thought, he is rich and probably very influential so why worry.

He did everything that the Red Bull kid did not do. This guy will probably be languishing in jail as Red Bull kid comes waltzing home after the authority allow the statues of limitations to expire. Moral of the story - corruption is rewarded.

Fair damaged the Benz though and no insurance will be paid as he was DUI, at least unlike many others he was waiting at the scene to be tested and arrested

Insurance always pays for damage in Thailand.... this further enables the drink drivers to continuing doing what they want with limited or no risk of consequence. It really is a shame that the most notable part of this story is that the Benz driver did not flee the scene as expected - this alone speaks volumes towards the general attitudes here.
mvdf
Let's hope he won't find solace in the statute of limitations and instead be made an example of, unlike a certain wealthy road user now waiting for his crimes to expire.
wombat
leave and let the statute of limitations to run out seems to be the favoured response to this crime.
