Marriage extension - Only had 400K THB for 7 weeks, not 8 weeks

The common way to solve the money issue is to use an Agent.

Ask around on facebook expat groups for referrals.

I commonly use agents to get around this because I cant stand dead useless money sitting around losing value.

For me I'm going the monthly overseas transfer method, no money parked in a Thai bank, no paying a broker 1000's of baht. Win-Win.

  • The requirement using money in bank is 2 months prior to day of application for extension.

  • First up it's 2 months not 8 weeks. You could obtain a covid extension. They should be continued past Jan 25.  Could go to immigration and explain why you need the covid extension..

  • Yes, you can have multiple covid extensions, especially if you tell them you need a little more time to meet the marriage/bank portion.

Certainly not in the case of extensions based on marriage.

Very much is the case. A good agent (and they cost 20K plus) can get around the 400k or 800k extension issue. Legality is questionable but its common enough practice that there are loads of locals who make a decent living getting foreigners around the problem.

This is off topic so I won't continue.

Many agents don't touch marriage extensions apart from organization of docs etc.

Certainly not covering money in the bank.

For that reason every agent would push client to extension retirement (if 50+) even if client was married.

BTW the op does not require that.

He needs to buy time. He basically has the money in the bank.

BTW you are aware of the process for using agent to circumvent money in bank.

The process is done 'upcountry'

Marriage has other requirements such as attending immigration etc etc

I dont want to argue but in Phuket its done all the time.

This is true, they send your docs to their "friends" at multiple immigration offices for a kickback.

Also True, but in the future my comments can give him a viable option if he doest mind to spend a little money in return for simplicity.

Certainly not the norm throughout Thailand.

It is common everywhere, you just ask around for reliable agents, communicate the required paperwork, and send your passport and documents via EMS to them.

Its risky, but if the alternative is being told to leave the country, its not so bad.

Obviously one should do things the best way possible but if youre in a bind, there are options. Thats all the point im trying to make.

Cant u shove income of minimum 40.000 bah a month instead?Thats much easier.

If he's American then that doesn't work because our embassy doesn't provide these types of letters.  I think he said he has no income as well.

It is 2 months.

At least some offices show it is 60 days, see posts above.

(6) In the case of marriage to a Thai woman, the alien husband must earn an average
annual income of no less than Baht 40,000 per month or must have no less than Baht
400,000 in a bank account in Thailand for the past two months to cover expenses for
one year

Well, if you go in March or April, then it is only 59 days!  :cheesy: So 60 days is fine!

Immigration use a calendar month as it is easier for them to count it.

some of them are not the brightest.
