The Thai Revenue Department has warned the public to be extremely wary of information appearing on its Twitter account after it was attacked by unknown hackers.

According to the Anti-Fake News Centre of Thailand, the hackers deleted almost all previous legitimate tweets by the Revenue Department and changed the name of the account to Revenue/NFT, leaving only one statement “I’m looking to collaborate with NFT projects. DM (direct message) me if you’re interested in paid promotion!”

The Revenue Department has notified the Anti-Fake News Centre about the incident. The department is in the process of restoring the account and has asked the centre to track down the perpetrators.

Isn't being "unknown" part of the definition of a hacker.

Partly. However, if you care to try and understand. Then they mean they have not found out who yet, hence the use of the word.

Seen from another side, there are also ethical hacking for good purposes with the goal of finding and closing holes in different systems. In that case the hackers in not unknown, and still goes by the name hacker.

Seen from my perspective, The Revenue Department deals with much confidential information, and have no real use or need of a Twitter account. Therefore they should not add to the risk factor by using one.
