Popular Post Opossum
Hi, while I was at the Thai language school in the next bigger city - immigration made a random check at my home and asked my wife, if I live with her togehter (Btw: I renewed my "permission of stay" 3 month ago) and made some photos with her and the house - she even asked them to come the next day when I'm at home, but they didn't want to!!!. Anyone experienced the same in the past? (This methode rememberes me somehow the good old DDR with the Stasi-Methode.... scary stuff...) 4 3 2
Popular Post DrJack54
3 months doesn't sound like a home visit. That would normally occur shortly after your extension? I would be so upset with that. Hopefully you will obtain a reasonable explanation. Not nice. 3
Popular Post glegolo18
You got rules and laws from the goverment as per behaviour from the falangs. Meaning that there probably have been bad behaviour earlier.. fraud, scams etc.. fake-marriages etc from others... So why not??? If you have nothing to hide, who cares if the guys comes home and check on us?? I dont care, this is not my country, and I have no right to cry and complain about it.. 21 9 15 1

Yes, indeed and when we come up for extension renewals it is always a bit stressful and until the new stamp is put in your passport one can not relax completely and yes have had visits before at home from the Authorities but also when my wife was at home. One might have a wonderful Thai family and we look after them as best we can and yes lol we have not got pots of gold but it is not our country and despite providing for most of the expenses will never be Thai. However, in my experience in the the main they do appreciate and love us and also have a lot of respect. 5 1

Absolute tripe. Why? I hate dealing with Immigration but it certainly is their right to come and check up on us, and of all the things you could get your titties in a twist over here in Thailand (e.g endemic corruption, social injustice, worst/rudest drivers on the planet) a quick home visit by Imm. shouldn't be an issue at all. If you're that sensitive it's a wonder how you can stand living here at all. 7 3 8 1

Popular Post asiaexpat
Complain about Immigration doing their job seems a little out of line. Home checks are common in many countries including the USA as demonstrated by the visit my family got to check on my wife when we lived there. ROK immigration checked on me monthly. That is part of living in a foreign country. 7 3 3 1

Ask yourself one question. If the financials were the same for marriage and retirement. Which would you obtain your extensions on. Retirement or Marriage. Your accepting home visit because ......less inconvenient money wise. I don't need to accommodate any clerk wishing to visit my home. 4 2

internationalism
they haven't visited you 3 month ago when you were making an extension. There were overstretched with the majority doing their extensions at the same time, end of september. now they were passing in you area and decided to visit. They never visited us in the very first extension in september 2020 and not in 2021. During the application process immigration officer was informally chatting to my wife, while doing all the paperwork. That was enough for them to check everything she wanted to know about our marriage. We are married for many years and my wife lived with me in europe for very many years. 2

Got a large safe full gold, cash and other valuables? -You'll want to hide that as well so you're not attacked and robbed blind by people cutting their way through your walls in the middle of the night. If you're broke and live in a bedsit it's not that you've got nothing to hide - you've got nothing, period. swm59nj
The owner of my condo rental in Bangkok contacted me yesterday . She said the manager called her and asked for a copy of my passport and TM30. Owner asked if I can give it to the manager. I have been living in this building for about a year and a half. I told the owner I submitted copies of my passport and visa to her upon moving in. I have a retirement visa. Owner said the manager told her she has no information about me. Owner then asked me to submit TM 30 to manager. I told owner she was responsible to submit the TM30 since she rented to a foreigner. I also reminded her of this just before I moved in. She said she took care of it. I then went to office to speak to manager. I asked why this all came up after a long period of time. Manager said something about immigration police last week came to the condo. Supposedly looking for a specific foreigner in the area who is not using proper documents. Manager also confirmed there is no information about me. They just know I have been living here for a while There are now notices in all the elevators regarding TM30 regulations. So maybe this is all part of crack down on foreigners. Possibly doing random checks. Edited January 21, 2022 by swm59nj

Popular Post bbko
When I do my marriage visa paperwork I include a hand drawn map to my home, why would I be surprised if they show up and check? I drew them a map to my home...555. There's no shortage of farangs that will do anything just to stay here to include lying on visa paperwork, I applaud there pro-active approach of "Good guys in, bad guys out". 2 1
rwill
I'm on a regular retirement visa, not marriage based. They came to my house once. That was about 4 years ago. But they called first. Just wanted to take picture of me holding my passport in front of the mailbox.

Popular Post Old Croc
So many members here live in a little fantasy bubble perhaps imagined by John Lennon. It may surprise some of these people to learn that there are many bad people in this world who don't always respect international borders when conducting their criminal endeavors. They take advantage of countries with lax Immigration laws, enforcement of such or those easily corruptible. People smuggling involving breaches of Immigration LAW is one of the biggest worldwide rackets. It can include abducted children, prostitution, child prostitution, refugees, faux refugees, arranged marriages, fleeing felons or even just an individual paying for a false marriage to gain a visa advantage. Virtually all countries have an investigative force to find and take action against these criminals. It may be the Police, special Immigration investigators or, in Thailand, a combination. Investigation of the motives of some applicants may at times involve unannounced visits to their homes. Obviously. genuine people will sometimes get scrutinized. It may also be surprising to know that waking up a judge to plead for a warrant is mainly an American TV show thing. Elsewhere there may be different paths to obtain a warrant. 4

Were they rogue officers? Has this happened to no one else but you?
