As many of you have noticed, TV is trailing a new way of displaying Ads on the site.

As it is now, the ad banners on the right side of the screen are gone.

How ever, every time a new topic is started, an Ad will appear as the 2nd post in the topic.

If the topic goes to 2 pages, an Ad will appear as the 2nd post on the second page (and third page and so on).

I have my options set to display 40 posts per page, which will limit the number of times I see the ad (compared to those who have their options set at 20 posts per page for example).

If you would like to comment on this new format, here is the link to a topic running in the Forum Support Desk about this very subject !

Additional Sponsor Ads

(Of course, you can comment in this thread as well !) :o

was just wondering if you can reply to an ad... by clicking "reply" so this test post... and found... you can't.

I was thinking, shouldn't "Sponsor" have to have at least 500 posts to be in Bedlam ?

Then I thought about all the threads, spread across all the forums, that "Sponsor" has at least 1 post in (two current threads in the Farang Pub would be almost 170 "ad posts" alone).

At least it's not as annoying as a certain (foreign) newspaper I read online is. They have these roll-over ads that if your cursor comes anywhere near the ad, it expands and blocks a quarter of the page. To get rid of it you have to click the little "close" link at the bottom, and then make an effort to move your cursor around the ad, or it will expand out again. :o

I tried to put him on my friends list but the miserable git doesn't want any. :o

it somewhat renders my firefox adbock ad absurdum. All the banners are gone, but now I have this annoying post on every page.

I understand the commercial necissity, though, and in the end of the day...since the loading speed of the page is not impaired thanks to adblock, I don't really care where the ad is invisible. :o

Hate it. Very annoying. I wasn't particularly keen on the ones on the side of the page either, as my laptop mouse is extraordinarily sensitive & used to accidentally click on them sometimes, but at least you could usually ignore them there. How are you supposed to ignore the 2nd post of every page?

Yes, I know, the whole idea of these ads is for members to see them, but how many of us are actually interested in them? For a start, there's more dating sites than you can shake a stick at - and I know I'm not interested in meeting a lovely Thai lady for fun or romance :o. I preferred them when they were easier to ignore.

I wonder if you can set him to "Ignore" - that'll show him!

Well, they do pay for the site. The only time they annoy be is when I am posting a reply, need to scroll down, hit an ad by mistake, and then lose my post. I think the cash flow comes from the site hits, no? We play for free, so I hit on a few ads sometimes to look see.

I too understand the neccessity for the sponsors ad's but they are getting on my nerves in the posts. I preffered nthem as they was. Just my opinion.

I think they're absolutely marvelous.

Well, come on... I might want a moderators job one day.

Shit, they can't tell who voted what on the poll can they???

I like having the full width of my browser back to be honest. The ad post is easy enough to ignore - just flick the mouse wheel.

Why, Business is Business, so better have 1 ad per page much better than on the right hand side.

Yours truly,

Kan Win :o

The girls with the social issues and amazing frequent flyer miles, are a problem. I have to blank the screen in airports or when anyone of a sensitive nature walks into the room. Not good,

Sorry I do think you should clarify.

Is it the old ad format or the lovely Thai ladies you found it easier to ignore ?

Just trying to save you from a far more insidious post than mine.

:D

I keep getting this image from the Asian Friend Finder ads.

very unenticing.

post-33919-1181575729.gif

the new ad format is slightly annoying but better than the side bar ads.

no ads for contributing members (in the sense of posting) is a very reasonable and fair proposal IMO. Guests make up the vast majority onliners anyway and they contribute nothing.

There is another aspect to this , in the way that Google adsense works.

I just made a post where I mentioned people being denied treatment for a life-threatening condition due to inadequate health insurance. When my post comes back on the screen comes a Google ad for health insurance.

I suppose if I was bemoaning being screwed by a bargirl (in the bad sense) I would have been offered Thai lovelies who want to meet ? me ?.

On that basis I think the new format is a really bad idea.

I'm heartened to see that I am not the only one to have really bad ideas.

Edit :

See the "sponsor" post below this one.

Edit 2 :

This is getting spooky.

First time it was "Thai lovelies" now it's back to health insurance !

STOP IT NOW GEORGE YOU'RE FREAKING ME OUT !

555 It's OK, FS. I noticed that before; must be that a key word in a post or thread title triggers a relevant google title, that's all. Hush, hush. They're not coming to get you, just yet, I don't think, but maybe we should go hide in the broom closet. They'll never look there.

I did notice how it sounded just after I'd posted it. I initially meant the ads, but I decided not to edit it when I noticed the ambiguity, because I would prefer to ignore the lovely Thai ladies looking for fun & romance, as well. :o:D

I personally find the new format better, I have no interest in finding a Thai lovely via the love links connection but for those that do good luck to them. I think George is wise to be looking at different ways of positioning the ads and as a business providing advertising space to other businesses he needs to provide a service to them as well as a free feed to us the members.

Not this little black duck sceadudoodledo. I am not very well liked by the powers that be. Having a set of balls doesn't help. :D

these adds are a total piece of bollicks. :o

i mean a full add every 2 pages is totally over the top and they should be bannished to the shitter. :D

absolute waist of bandwidth and a total let down of this forum. :D

How do you justify a post like that? I am not upset by it but curious why you would think agreeing with something done by the Admin group is suspect behaviour on my part.

take it to PM if you feel that you need to vent your spleen

Whoa Crow Boy; Calm down.

I normally find sceadugenga to be a kind and sensible poster, although I must admit that I am not sure that I understand this particular post. My guess is that there is just a misunderstanding here guys! :D
