Look at how many unconcerned people it takes to inspect a Zebra crossing ! And none of them know the answer as to what to do so they want to get rid of it !! Pathetic.

It would be comical if it weren’t so tragic! It reminds of a Belgian joke: how many people do you need to change a bulb on a ceiling lamp? Answer 6: one holding the bulb and tive to move the chair around.

Well, put in speed bumps to prevent the 'high speed'. There is a growing trend in my native UK for a 20mph speed limit in all built-up areas. The speed that so many drive in towns and cities in Thaila

Perfect (Thai) solution: instead of doing something about it, why not just remove the problem? Problem solved, innit?

On thing I forgot to mention is that you don't overtake [should I mention undertaking as it could be seen as callous on this thread] when approaching or in an intersection. While this is absolute common sense for western road users it seems to be a totally out outlandish concept for the Thais.

Favor of the month cross walks!

So now everyone is jumping on the bandwagon when the problem is much larger!

And there lays the biggest problem RTP, they want to remove the cross walk!

This is their solution and reason why the whole system need to be scraped send them all back to the classroom to learn their ABC. Move it sweep it under the rug!  Traffic heavy block off the road send it down to the next intersection,  too many accidents block off the turn out send the traffic down to the next intersection.  This is the solution to every problem in this nation!

I remember a few years ago Pattaya  Beach row right outside the police station Soi 9 they put in a rolling speed bump to slow down the speeding just before the crosswalk with lights, first night a motorbike taxi come down going 100 it hits that bump kills himself next day the police solution is to make the bump smaller.  The is the type of pee brain thinking being developed in Thai government schools to are serving this country.

The road could easily be made safer by installing rumble strips and speed bumps. All roads can be designed to make them safer. Any long stretch of road without some form of barrier will invite speeding

You think Thai drivers have any form of discipline? They don't!

My Gast is completely flabbered. In fact you could say that I'm flabbergasted

Please consider skyways to cross big and traffic heavy roads,  cheap to build and safe for everyone.

And forget about the aged or handicapped.

Not to mention that most of the time it’s hot and sweaty in Thailand, so it’s quite an effort for any of us to get up and down those stairs as the sun is beating down on you.

There are lifts or escalators like they have in Singapore and other countries which they can use.

How about some tyre spikes that pop up when the lights turn red,

No, one step forward, two steps backwards

sure build more overpasses.

that would be great for disabled people.

they have still have not built lifts at all the bts stops as was ordered by court years ago.

the court gave them 1year to complete.  never happened.

they do not care about disabled people in this country!!

Yep although the solution is quite simple. Install a huge sleeping policeman (speed hump) and speed cameras which fine you 2,000 baht for going over the speed limit. I think you'll find that will incentivise people to slow down. It does here anyhow!!

That's exactly what the article said they'd do!...

"...the official stated that crosswalk lights and CCTV cameras would be installed at crosswalks".

Pathetic? Really?   They didn't say that was the only option...

Thai logic could be if the Zebra Crossing is removed then it wasn't needed. If it wasn't needed then the Corporal shouldn't be punished for it being there, a victim himself of bad traffic planning.

No, that's your logic, not Thai logic.

After they painted all those little squares on the  side and down

middle of the road, then they thought a bit more ,and decided

the best way was to get rid of it, leaving people to run over the

No, not exactly...

Indeed. Tremendous loss of face in having one of their fellow men hit a pedestrian, in what was obviously the wrong place, the crosswalk. Solution? Remove the crosswalk.

Indeed not.  Read the full article...

Also, forget all those rumours about the bike not having a plate, not being registered, not even his bike, "borrowed" from the well known RTP toy box called police impound. All FAKE NEWS.

These confirmed charges are "fake news", are they?...

Speeding

Reckless driving causing death
Using a vehicle without a licence plate
Failing to keep his motorcycle in the left lane
Failing to give way to someone using a pedestrian crossing
Using a vehicle with unpaid annual registration tax
Using a vehicle that lacked required equipment
Not having third-party vehicle insurance.

It has also been confirmed that he bought the bike, it had not been impounded.

So much 'consideration', so little action, as with all government functions.

Garbage.  Where exactly in Thailand are any of these lifts and escalators provided for people just wanting to cross the roads to use?
