From Thaksin’s crooner to Prayut’s promoter – the pinball political career of Seksakol Atthawong

Once a red-shirt leader dubbed “Isan Rambo”, Seksakol Atthawong has made yet another political pivot, leaving the ruling Palang Pracharath to join a new party aiming to secure Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha’s return to power after the next general election.

Currently a vice-minister to the Prime Minister’s Office, Seksakol disclosed on Monday (Jan 7) that his new party —Ruamthai Sarngchart — would support Gen Prayut in his bid for another term regardless of whether Palang Pracharath or another party nominates him as its PM candidate.

Seksakol said the party’s name, which means Uniting Thais to Build the Nation, was inspired by a phrase used often by Prayut.

Talk about flip flopping, this guy seems to a political party hopper.

Hopping parties once, is more or less OK.

More than once, then he should quit being an MP and a bye election should be called and ALL the expenses incurred or expected should be billed to him personally.

The majority of those expenses should be paid BEFORE the bye election goes to the vote.

It would be interesting to see what the voters think of him.

many of turncoats, cobras, had criminal charges back to red protests in pattaya siege, bangkok ratchaprasong.

In exchange for dropping charges they were forced to join junta.

His "904" haircut says all about him. It's obligatory for police and military. He is not more than payed stooge.

His political carrier has finished.

I don't know if and how he was elected the last time.

But his electorate will shrink.

Doesn't look like this new party has time for coming election. Prayuth might even not to qualify for the pm post.

But certainly would further split PPP and divide it's electorate, which is good enough.

Interesting, if they would form any coalition during and after election

No. No. No. Please give us someone who knows how to run a country not an Army. I’m sure it’s a pipe dream, but it would be nice to see someone looking out for all the people (including the foreigners), not just the elite Thai folks.

You know how that is......whichever way the political fashioned winds blow.

If one hasn't noticed, these schemes have been extraordinarily popular of the last nine months or so.

The facade of switching over, creating not so new political identities, swearing false loyalities, etc......

He hit all the branches falling out the ugly tree
