Popular Post fulhamster
I would have thought that, as soon as the first Indian tourist tests positive and is incarcerated, the rest will seriously reconsider their travel plans. 2

Chinese - make a bubble, forgot to check out if China would let their people out! India being the second largest population, would have been a natural target group. but forgot that most of them have been accepted by Dubai with limited conditions for the past 12 months and there is a smaller slice left to come here. This is what happens when strategists take ONLY our needs into consideration, and not looking at what the counterparty wants. Someone has already got their calculators out. X & Y number of Chinese and Indians, Z number of PCR tests @ 3000 a pop, P number of 1 day T & G, Q number of 5th day T & G. ZZZ number infections and hospitEls beds, fully occupied All in all - 5 trillion baht opportunity. Just like Thailand's quarantine free entry includes the day 1 and day 5 testing bonus with the prize being an escorted trip to a chosen incarceration centre. Then it's pay up for your care and hope that your insurer covers the cost. I would remind readers that as omicron is on the increase in Thailand, day 1 to day 5 self isolation might be a good idea. What fun. Is there a description somewhere of what the "travel bubble" entails? I clicked the link and there was no description.

They are around 121 million, more than double of total population of Thailand. I copied relevant portion below. Remeber China and India has a big slice of middle income group which neighbouring countries target. https://www.statista.com/statistics/482584/india-households-by-annual-income/ As of 2016, about 121 million households in India belonged to the middle-income bracket earning a gross annual income between 7,700 and 15,400 U.S. dollars. This figure is expected to grow up to 140 million households by 2025, thus making India's middle class a large entity of the total population in terms of wealth and standard of living.

paul1804
Another waste of time on mostly low spending tourists, these morons just dont see the big picture do they. And I suppose a travel bubble will allow these "high" spending Indians to side step some entry rules given their value to Thai tourism!!!!! I used to frown when people on this forum criticised the Thai authorities but now I see exactly why they do it. Sure let the Indians come but under the same conditions as others otherwise why impose extra restrictions on others if they are not needed! Right now a travel bubble with some European & Scandinavian countries would make much more sense, come mid year a travel bubble with Southern Hemisphere countries with a reputation for frequenting Thailand should be their next focus! Given that many countries are relaxing restrictions and opening up now knowing that most of their restrictions did more damage than good & not that most will admit this but it will force Thailands hand to follow or sink!

spidermike007
It makes total sense to a rational mind to select a nation that has been in the top ten in daily cases, and top 5 in daily deaths recently, to create a bubble with. I can see the great scientists, doctors and intellects of this great and formidable nation are hard at work.

Popular Post Darrren
Still talking about bubbles.. Time to stop the fear - it’s doing far much damage than the virus. This figure is expected to grow up to 140 million households by 2025, thus making India's middle class a large entity of the total population in terms of wealth and standard of living. just to add some data points to the above. i saw in a separate article today (in the paper we cannot post links to), that 1.9 million indians arrived in 2019 and spent an average of seven days in thailand spending 44,000thb. so call that 1,300USD. i don't think india has a large income tax (5% ?) and i'm sure it is tiered like many countries. so maybe one can rely on these middle income people retaining the vast majority of their gross income. just to throw out a cost estimate, maybe $200 for the r/t flight and $30/nt for hotel (x7) puts you at about $400 for flight and hotel. i assume some indian tourists can survive on 1,000thb/day (or less) so add about another $200. so that's $600 for a semi budget type trip. the lower end of the income group might not make the trip but it seems feasible for the higher end of the group. if the travelers were mainly the wealthy class, i have a feeling the average spend would be alot higher so there must not be alot of them as a percentage of that 1.9 million.
