If war breaks out in Ukraine, what do you think will be the impact on your expat life in Thailand?

Game over man.

Putin signs decrees recognizing breakaway territories in eastern Ukraine

The Taiger
Putin sends 'peacekeeping' troops to Ukraine after recognising breakaway provinces

Russian now can declare a Responiblity To Protect (R2P) as they take a page out of the US/NATO playbook.

The effect on Thailand expats?  Nada.

This is just the beginning. Putin's forces have nothing to do with peace keeping.

Now it will be interesting to see if the Russian Forces entering the separatist areas exacerbates or quietens the level of gunfire etc. It could be that despite it confirming the already recognized Russian support that it is also intended to prevent the provocation tactics the separatists were using ?

While it puts Russia in control it notches up the genuine threat of total invasion in face of demands.

And if that escalates to become a European war zone then what an opportunity for China to move on Taiwan whilst the US is distracted and  not only in dissaray due to the Afganhistan debacle but also no doubt becoming the major force as the major Russian deterrent in Europe. Troubling times indeed. And if the latter occurs also then no doubt the Thais will put their hands up to the Chinese in double quick time just as they did with the Japanese all those years ago.

Now that Putin has started this war, here is an interesting and depressing theory on where this will lead globally.

Yes globally including Thailand.

Let’s assume for a moment that Vladimir Putin succeeds in gaining full control of Ukraine, as he shows every intention of doing. What are the strategic and geopolitical consequences?

Paywall. Can you summarize?

He recognized two areas in sovereign Ukraine as independent and going in. That's a declaration of war.

So his defending Russians in breakaway regions who want to democratically want to be independent.

Putin knows Biden is too frail to respond in a manly way. As for Kamala, ..... :cheesy: (hyena laughter)

Biden was appointed by the Democrats with one task: get rid of Trump by any means necessary. Mission accomplished and mentally tardy Biden can be shunted off to the side. Let the Pentagon and the Woke Saints run things from now on. USA is itching for a scrap with unwoke and disobedient Russia.

How it will affect us in Thailand? Higher gasoline prices, mainly. I hope Thailand isn't bullied by the USA into taking sides.

And you US propaganda.

The inhabitants of Donbass are almost all Russian speakers and Russophiles, exactly like those of Crimea. For them the aggressor is the Ukrainian power under Western infusion.

Tonight, many will dance in the streets of Donetsk forcing us to reconsider our positions on our domocracies allegedly acting to help the oppressed.

Its irrelevant what they speak.

That's not how sovereign nations work, dear.

East LA is heavily Mexican. Mexico doesn't get to recognize it as a separate country, send tanks in, yes even though California used to belong to Mexico.

Putin has declared war on Ukraine. There is no other honest way to view it.

Well I will continue to be Putin's advocate and take the view of both sides of the story, the western powers have a ignorant understanding of Russia's concerns and there has been only threats and sanctions.

Can you enlighten us how a recognition of an independent state is a declaration of war?

When Kosovo was recognized (by some) as an independent state - and peacekeeping forces entered the territory - was that a declaration of war? (by those who recognized?)

Both new fake states just as Crimea are part of the sovereign nation of Ukraine.

Can we not give a credit to Putin's concern of his national security once there are mighty armies of 30 nations at his gates?

And that's all after a century of demonising, breaches of promises and treaties, despite many friendly proposals?

Aren't other countries concerned about threat to their national security - and to their fellow citizens  - even if the threat is on the other side of the world?
