The Ang Thong provincial administration held a creative road accident reduction campaign yesterday (Monday), to encourage motorists to respect pedestrians’ right of way on zebra crossings, with a Khon mask dance performance on the Po Phraya-Tha Rua Road in the Muang district.

Students from the Bunditpatanasilpa Institute staged a Khon mask dance performance, featuring an episode from the Ramayana epic, on a zebra crossing in front of the college.

The campaign, instructed to all provincial administrations, is set to be relaunched on the 21st of every month, following the high-profile death of ‘Doctor Kratai’, an eye doctor at Chulalongkorn University who was struck and killed on January 21 by a large motorcycle as she was crossing Bangkok’s Phaya Thai Road on a zebra crossing.

I’m sure the students did an excellent performance.  And gave them an opportunity to demonstrate their skills.  But unfortunately this will accomplish nothing.

As much as I love Thailand this is a reminder that Thailand is a third world country with a similar thinking ability!!
