I thought the majority were from Russian prisons. That's where he was recruiting the bulk of them until it got stopped.

They've only started recruiting prisoners since the invasion of Ukraine. It's not clear whether they make up the majority of their personnel, as estimates of their numbers vary. They do seem to make up the majority of their casualties in Ukraine recently though, with one estimate saying that 90% of Wagner's casualties since December have been convicts.

US estimates are 80% of those that were in Ukraine:

About 80% of Wagner's troops in Ukraine have been drawn from prisons, the US National Security Council said at the start of this year.

OK, that would make them the majority of Wagner's troops in Ukraine but but necessarily the majority of their entire forces.

This is about Ukraine not Wagner troops in other countries.

To end this GHW mercenaries from around the world including Brits are fighting for Ukraine's forces. Doesn't matter if its 1 or a thousand foreign fighters are in Ukraine. On another story, Putin's lapdog Lakoshenko will grass up Progazhin to Vlad if he gets wind of his whereabouts if he is in Belarus. He Progozhin must be a dead man walking.

They're not mercenaries if they enlist in the Ukraine armed forces and are subject to the same rules as are Ukrainian soldiers. There are also ex soldiers working in the Ukraine on a volunteer basis. If they're not getting paid, then they're not mercenaries.

Wagner leader Yevgeny Prigozhin said he had recruited 50,000 convicts for Ukraine, an estimate also made by Olga Romanova, director of the prisoner rights group Russia Behind Bars. Western military officials say convicts formed the bulk of Wagner’s force there.

About 32,000 have returned from Ukraine, Prigozhin said last week, before his abortive rebellion against the Defense Ministry. Romanova estimated it to be about 15,000 as of early June.

Those prisoners agreeing to join Wagner were promised freedom after their service, and President Vladimir Putin recently confirmed that he was “signing pardon decrees” for convicts fighting in Ukraine. Those decrees have not been made public.

Two Cruise missiles struck a Restaurant and shopping area in Kramatorsk last night around 8 pm killing up to 9 so far including children. Bodies are still being pulled out this morning. President Zelensky has described the attack as an Act of Terror knowing civilians will be out and eating at that time. Yet another war crime committed by the Kremlin Butcher.

Sky news have just released a statement from the Kremlin regarding the missile attack on kramarorsk saying " We do not target Civillians " lying B       ds.

Ukraine really wants to start targeting Pizza Restaurants if there close enough to hit Rostok. Who cares what the Snowflakes think watch Russia putting unarmed Civilians in Russian body bags and see how Shoigu like seeing that.

Wait until they are over a park or less populated area, then shoot them down with shoulder mounted missiles. Few things are more spectacular than a Russian military helicopter falling out of the sky.

Some good news for Ukraine following that so called Russian mutiny:

The loss of this aircraft is likely to have a negative impact on Russian air and land operations. In the short term the psychological shock of losing a large number of aircrew in this manner will almost certainly damage morale within the Russian Aerospace Force.

In the longer term, there is a possibility that current tasking levels may have to be reduced to safely manage the remaining fleet. This will likely undermine Russia's ability to command and coordinate its forces, particularly during periods of high tempo operations.

it's not a case of stooping to their level of depravity GHW a simple lesson is all that is required a 1 off so to speak to let Russia know how it feels to have a Russian shopping mall or restaurant deliberately targeted. Let them feel pain and suffering.

No,attacking and killing civilians is an illegal act of war.

After the war is over the guilty parties will get their punishment.

Doing the same things as the russians did is not the way to go.

I can understand how you feel but there are laws and reacting in anger maybe just what the russians need/want to commit even more illegal acts. They would probably be in the same frame of mind as you are now.

The court in The Hague will be a busy place.

Russia as a country might know about it but the general population would never hear about! So what is the point of stooping to Putin's level?

Apparently a couple of big shot Russian generals have gone missing over the last couple of days:

The plot thickens……

They must be on the growing list of VIP Wagner members, 30 of them identified so far

Russian Gen. Sergey Surovikin was secret VIP member of Wagner, documents show

Documents shared exclusively with CNN suggest that Russian Gen. Sergey Surovikin was a secret VIP member of the Wagner private military company.

The documents, obtained by the Russian investigative Dossier Center, showed that Surovikin had a personal registration number with Wagner. Surovikin is listed along with at least 30 other senior Russian military and intelligence officials, who the Dossier Center said are also VIP Wagner members.

It is quite possible that Putin is going to go all Stalin on them. If I’m not mistaken, Stalin wiped out almost all of the senior officers of the Russians army in the 1930’s because he was paranoid, afraid they’d stage a coup against him. That cost Russia dearly in WWII, because the army lacked good officers (i.e. leadership) when Germany attacked.

And another mysterious ‘defenestration’ in Russia:

“Glamorous vice president of Russian bank Kristina Baikova, 28, ‘plunges to her death from 11th floor apartment window’ in Moscow in latest mysterious fatality involving country’s top execs.”

Another one of Putin’s girlfriends? I mean, how can a 28-year-old (man or woman) be the vice president of the Russian national bank? Looks more like a model to me. But she must have done something to seriously p!ss Putin off.

Judging by the way Ukraine's going for them, Putin would be well advised to keep the bumbling fools he's already got.  They couldn't organise a coup in a pigeon show.
