Ukraine fighting is deadlocked, spy chief Kyrylo Budanov tells BBC

Fighting in Ukraine is currently at a deadlock as neither Ukraine nor Russia can make significant advances, the head of the Ukrainian military intelligence agency has said, while Kyiv waits for more advanced weapons from Western allies.

"The situation is just stuck," Kyrylo Budanov told the BBC in an interview. "It doesn't move."

After Ukrainian troops recaptured the southern city of Kherson in November, most of the fiercest battles have been around Bakhmut, in the eastern Donetsk region.

Russia seems to be digging in and getting ready for an other

large attack i read some where.

Imo the only way to end this soon is to supply the Ukrainian armed forces

with all the equipment they need to kick the russians out.

There is growing resistance inside of Russia but waiting for that to really

make a difference could be too long.

Stop dragging you xss NATO.

No response so far. Hopefully Xi will ‘regretfully’ decline.

Russian authorities have announced that soldiers and state employees deployed to fight in Ukraine will be exempt from income tax. Russian forces can also receive ‘gifts and rewards’ for their services in Ukraine, according to new decree.

That will surely have Russian men enlist in droves. That really outweighs the risks, not to have to pay income tax and to receive gifts and awards when you get your nuts blown off in Ukraine. Or worse. How desperate can you get?

No doubt the "gifts and rewards" will be all you can plunder from the battlefield.

Russia has launched dozens of missiles at cities across Ukraine, officials there say.

Kyiv Mayor Vitaly Klischko said there had been several blasts in the city, causing damage and at least one death.

The attacks happened two days after Russia carried out one of the largest air strikes since the start of the war.

Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky had warned Russia could launch more attacks to make Ukrainians "celebrate the New Year in darkness".

Several senior Ukrainian officials have alluded to the strikes in social media posts, saying that Russia would not succeed in ruining their celebrations.

Mykolaiv Governor Vitaly Kim said on Facebook that Russian missile launches had been reported.

Fortunately they are getting some of their own medicine back.

You seem really keen to expand the war. Ever considered that NATO doing more could be an invitation to go nuclear?

No i am not keen to expand the war,you mentioned this before.

Putin has been talking nuclear every time he is not happy with how the war

is going.

I do not want to expand it or extend  it i want it to be over.

I really believe he is bluffing because he knows what will happen if he

steps it up.

He has been bullying the world long enough now.

As long as NATO is not actively fighting but only aiding in providing the tools to win this war there is no reason for P to step it up.

He buys ammo and drones so what really is the difference?

He is even asking China for help but i do not think they want their fingers

burnt, they have enough on their plate to deal with inside of China.

Ever consider that there are no risk free options in dealing with this war that Putin started, but letting him take territory from neighboring countries and caving in to his threats would be the riskiest approach of all?

I largely approve of how Biden and NATO have responded to Russia's aggression so far, but I think it's time to make Russia feels some pain within its own borders.  Legitimate military targets in Russia that are within reach of Ukraine's weapons should be attacked and destroyed.

You really seem keen on letting Russia invade other countries, bully them and do as they please.

If the US or a NATO country gives Ukraine weapons capable of attacking the Russian land eg Moscow, it would be regarded by Russia as an attack by the US or NATO. That's why they have not done so. Any attack by Ukraine on Russia would have to be with their own weapons.

Does anyone seriously think Putin is going to "end the war"? The only way the war will end without a Ukrainian surrender, IMO, is if Putin is no longer in charge. It took a change of leader to end Russian involvement in Afghanistan.

IMO Putin has gone too far to back off now.

They won't invade any NATO or country with a treaty with the west.

If they want to invade Afghanistan by all means do so.
