A fire destroyed a rundown metal shack in Mueang Chonburi yesterday afternoon (February 28th), with the owner claiming that despite the appearance of the structure she was storing hundreds of thousands of baht of valuables there.

Firefighters were notified of the fire at 4:00 P.M. at a ramshackle house made of zinc, sheet, and metal near several townhouses in the Na Pa sub-district. Firefighters arrived at the scene with four fire engines in total along with reporters from TPN media.

The fire was heavily ablaze and it took more than half an hour to control the fire, with firefighters concerned about the blaze spreading to the nearby townhouses, which they managed to prevent. The metal structure, however, was completely destroyed including a motorbike. No injuries were reported.

And the point being? Unless she has a claim against an insurance policy, who will 'pity' her? A GoFundMe request?

Also, what were the 'valuables'? A collection of first-edition, vintage comic books? Or gold bars and jewelry? If the latter, wouldn't there still be some traces left?

I know that specific items that I have insured require photographs, official appraisals, receipts, etc., in order to get them insured. Something tells me that didn't happen. Also, as some others noted, jewelry and electronics don't vaporize in fire. If she was properly insured she'll get her just due, just as she will if she wasn't. But, TIT, someone could decide poor her and subsidize her loss with taxpayers money...

No doubt the wealthy ex owner of valuables would of course have them insured for a fraction of the actual value...

Hardly likely as they may not have existed in the first place. Gold will not melt away in a house fire.

If, and it is a big If, the contents were insured, then I expect the insurance company will say the building should have had a sprinkler system, secure locks, cameras, and alarms...........:whistling:

They will require reciepts and dated pictures of said valuables "inside" the house for any compensation after wear and tear is deducted.

That said it's not unusual for a junky looking houses having 60,000 baht TV  inside surrounded by chickens.
