The cool season in Thailand is now officially over, as the country officially enters summer today (Wednesday), according the Thai Meteorological Department.

Most of the northern part of Thailand will be hot, with temperatures forecast to be at least 35oC which could soar to as high as 43oC  in some areas, as the north-eastern monsoon winds change south-easterly, indicative of the arrival of the dry season, said the department.

During the initial stage of the dry season, however, some areas in northern and north-eastern regions will continue to experience cold weather in the mornings for a while and occasional rain is forecast.

Thank God for that.....been wearing a fleece for past two weeks.

So what's the significance of 2nd March that it has such a major effect on the weather? Can't find any reference to it on the Aseannow calendar, not a religious day. Maybe the 'powers that be' are gearing up for another public holiday!

It isn't the date that determines the beginning of summer, it is when the prevailing winds change direction and bring warmer air from the south, rather than cold air from the north, which they have now apparently done. The date at which this happens changes every year, sometimes by weeks.

Woke up at 04:00 this morning 25C.... been like that for the last 2 months.

I sleep at night commando fashion on top of the sheets and no fan required.

The wind has swung round to the south from the north which means a change in temperature and humidity.
