Sim card for short trip abroad

Featured Replies

My ex is travelling next week for 3 weeks to Europe.

Local Thai sim card with roaming activated or better buying a sim card, once arriving in Germany?

Suggestions

Cheaper if she buys a SIM card in Europe. Roaming is very expensive.

Edit: Dtac Roaming packages (as an Example)

https://www.dtac.co.th/en/roaming/rate/deu/

60 Mins Calls

Validity 7 Days

Price 650 THB!

120 Mins Calls

Validity 7 Days

Price 1200 THB

Internet 7GB

15 Days

899 THB

So expensive

I am not up-to-date about conditions in Germany (away too long).

But as usual the #1 concern is having (mobile) internet access being able to use messengers whenever possible. Guess she has LINE and Facebook?

For that a German SIM is recommended.

Not sure whether LINE makes problems when changing SIM/phone number though.

Telephone is last resort. Also quite expensive from the German mobile SIM to Thailand.

There are multiple ways to get it cheaper with calling cards and things.

But not too convenient. A bit complicated.

Calling back the German number cost 5 to 7 Baht/min.

Does she have to make actual calls, or just tie into wifi ?

Probably most of time communicating with us here in thailand through line or whatsapp.

Do they have a Thai SIM/number/account now? Prepaid or postpaid? Which provider?

The main requirements?

local calls within Germany?

calls to/from Thailand?

mobile data? How much?

budget?

You can get a travel SIM or add on a package to an existing SIM.

Enable international roaming. Consider using WiFi calling, if available.

A local SIM is often the best solution. But a SIM from thailand offers service on touchdown.

I've been using the AIS Sim2Fly sim for 6yrs....but I think all Thai Telco's offer them. Works flawlessly  everywhere I've been (Europe, N.A.,S.A., all Asia).

DTAC has an awesome WiFi Calling app.
