I really get scared....

As far as things yet undone...

If I became certain that my time was short.

Let's say severe weakness and maybe my vision fading.

I know my prayer would be "Please Lord, give me the strength to get in one more argument with the lovely members of ASEANNOW".

I am too old for the effects of climate change to have any impact on me personally.

Having said that, the stupidity of many in the human race is depressing in the way basic facts get shunted aside. I put climate deniers and Trump voters in the same basket.

Yea, I'm still waiting for those ice caps to melt, then my brother's house will be surfside, and I may return for a visit.  Hope they gave their Nobel back.  1 mill well spent.

That 0.5-1C over the next century or 2 has kept me awake at nights.   Although if this rain is part of climate change, I'm loving it.

I see the CDC caught out again, and adjusting them #s, so not so scary ... oh wait, wrong thread ????

Albert was intelligent. Most scientists are morons.

Einstein was a theoretical physicist and mathematician of some note ( but not the most talented at maths) and he added to the sum of all knowledge and only indirectly to the sum of  day to day human life. The vast majority of what we call scientists, for whatever reason, are involved directly in helping humankind, either by invention, or in   development, say of medicines.  Morons they certainly are not.

So why do they earn a fraction of a stock traders wage?

I trained as a scientist, and found I could earn far more as a high school teacher, with 10 weeks holiday a year.

Then I found I could earn far more than a high school teacher working in the city ...........

The "know-it-all" curmudgeons here will surely disagree.

To some people, a lot of dedicated people, its not about money, its about the quality of the job, otherwise I for one would not have spent half my working life in the UK Military.

I think the reason William Hurt's death may have touched some is because his acting was fairly relateable and somewhat sensitive. He seemed like an everyman dealing with life.

I wasn't a huge fan of his movies. The Accidental Tourist. So so. Kiss of the Spider Woman Not my cup of tea. The Big Chill. A bit pretentious. Children of a Lesser God. My worst date movie ever. Lost In space. Terrible movie and he was terribly miscast as John Robinson.

Until they realise where their Viagra came from, or even the aircraft that got them here, or the party pack of pills they take each day to stay alive and healthy, or their car, or their TV, Phone, laptop, etc.  I could go on. Do they think that these things are grown on a invention farm?

Yes, I am a 'real  Doctor', that is, I hold a PhD, I do not use an honorary title, as most medical 'doctors' do.   They are better described as Physicians, not doctors.  Indeed, UK surgeons use Mr, not doctor, which is the correct form.

Strangers dying younger than myself gets ... 'hmm, that was young' ... that's about it.

Millisecond later ... "honey, we're low on peanut butter, put on your list"

Thoughts of me outliving most of my peers, friends ... hmm, not sure, mix, sort of miss you, but you should have made better life decisions.

Family, just 1 passed too early, that really sucked, but aside from that, and I got 7 years to catch up to my mother's age when she c r a p p e d out, and my cousin is 83, spry & sharp as a tack ... so the future looks bright.

Just have to remember to look both ways before crossing street.

I understand you don't want to answer my questions, because you can't.

Climate deniers use a number of arguments to justify their denial, yours is just one of the weaker ones.

When there are 95% of scientists agreeing global warming and climate change are man-made, and only a small fraction of those scientists actually working in the field, it demonstrates that particular argument is as dumb as a can of soup.

Look at the 5% of scientists who reject climate science if you want to know where the gravy train is.

Wrong. 95% is false. Proven wrong. And the abuse just proves you have no argument. You lost already.

I suggest you provide a credible link to your assertion, and not some conspiracy website.

Attacking the credibility of the argument is not the same as attacking you, which is not permitted on this forum. If you want to take it that way, it's your problem, not mine.

I think a dozen people (slight exaggeration), mostly of Germanic origin, invented everything.

And the other 99.99% of scientists were a waste of space (including everyone at NASA except Wernher von Braun), endless paper pushers and jobsworths wasting public grant money on pointless research, and silly predictions of doom.

That is your biggest challenge in life?

Pretty much ... life threatening challenges anyway.  Same as driving, as it would take a freak accident to cancel me out.  I think I've almost perfected my defensive driving skills after 20 yrs.

Note to self: stop watching 'idiot in car' vids on youtube.  That's some scary sh!t.

We go when we go, but always good to be prepared to avoid it sooner and rather go later. As long I'm sane, aware, and still healthy, I'm happy to continue.

The difference is by your own admission you never really enjoyed what you did. I might still be working as a scientist if age discrimination was not so rife in Australia. I loved working at a laboratory bench, finding new insights into processes.

Stock traders make lots of money because they deal in mind-boggling sums. Many are burnt out by age 30, due to the stresses involved.

I may not have been the best paid employee in the companies I worked for, senior managers usually were. I earned enough to keep me happy, and the same managers called me in for many a problem or issue.

Ah, the standard response of someone who won't provide a credible link, and won't answer questions because it would reveal their lack of knowledge. On ignore now.

Not true. Most employees dont earn much. Most trades are computerised.
