Prominent local education director in Pattaya killed after driving his motorbike into a power pole in Jomtien

Pattaya –  A well-known director in the Bang Saray education office passed away overnight after crashing his motorbike into a power pole in Jomtien.

 

The Pattaya City Police was notified of the accident early yesterday morning on Jomtien Second Road in Nongprue.

 

Emergency responders arrived at the scene to find the damaged motorbike near a power pole.

Lots of accidents on this stretch of road. Not sure why. 

 

Over the years City Hall has painted the road and placed signage to deter speeding but people still killing themselves.

You made me take a look on Google Maps... there does appear to be street lighting there but 2 lamp units seemingly well apart. Anyone care to comment if night lighting is sufficient?

The lights on the bike should be sufficient to light the way..... no excuses.

Practicing what he teaches.......sometimes your bike lights are not good, mai pen rai.....ride as fast as possible.....use your phone on the bike....get <deleted>.....carry amulets!

Exactly....   when even those is positions of authority do not bother, how can the message infiltrate society?

 

When the police can’t be bothered to enforces helmet laws, when ‘supposedly’ educated people don’t bother what hope is there ??(rhetorical).

You make a point that all of us that live here long stay must eventually come to terms with.

 

I've been here for five years now. Long enough to go through the stages of shock, disbelief, pity, struggle to understand, and finally acceptance that the Thai culture does not consider such excessive road carnage to be a negative part of life; it almost seems a national sport. To westerner minds however it belies their purported love of family.

 

As long as they don't threaten or kill me (which they may well yet do) I just don't care anymore when I read these stories. My emotional response is almost nil. Mostly I don't even read the stories now.

 

That has become a comfortable space for me and apparently the Thai people feel the same. It is important to recognize this fact and ensure that you watch out for yourself because they certainly won't be.

 

I just put it down to another Mystery of Siam that I can never hope to understand.

What is the fatal attraction about poles that Thai motorists and motorcyclists seem unable to resist? They see one while driving at excessive speed and, before you can say 'rushed to the scene', go headlong into it.

Rip.. Didn't do him any good being a educating director,Should've educated himself a bit better about riding a bike.

He should've known Power poles are stronger than Motor bikes.

I'm not convinced any body with a so called title to his name eg education director.. are suitable for their job as never had proper training to do the jobs correctly... So most jobs as abtained buy money or someone's knows someone to get them the job....

I hope they check his blood for drink driving plus to see if he was using his phone.   Why no mention of this in the article?   Any normal reporter would ask the police those 2 questions?   Also what party was he driving home from.   Those directors party!  They feel they are high up the ladder or is that closer to the trough. 

At least his debt isn't a worry.

You seem confused.  He was the director of education, in Thailand.  He did not direct the education of anyone.

Looks like a metal pole so maybe magnetic which might have attracted the bike?

The same for trees, klongs, and the back of large trucks.

 

Another Mystery of Siam.

 

We can only hope that the pilots chosen for the Thai Space Program are carefully screened for this genetic marker.
