Thai Government suggests to limit use of air con to save electric costs following rising costs, leads to dispute between politicians

Government spokesperson Thanakorn Wangboonkongchana retorted opposition to Thai Srang Thai Party Leader Sudarat Keyuraphan on social media following her criticism against the government’s suggestion to reduce electricity costs by limiting air conditioning.

 

The Thai government’s suggestion to limit air conditioning, as well as usage of other electric appliances, had been made earlier this week following criticism from social media “netizens” over rising costs associated with various factors, including according to the government the Russia-Ukraine war.

 

Thanakorn said on his Facebook status: ” I saw Khunying Sudarat Keyuraphan, chairman of the Thai Srang Thai Party, posted a Facebook status that no matter how people tried to save costs, they couldn’t still survive. Because the problem was not how many degrees they had to turn on the air conditioner, but the problem was the leadership’s vision…”

To save more money I might even turn off my refrigerator, router, security cameras, night lights, washing machine........

If you live in Bangkok or Chiang Mai you can turn down your both the air purifier and air-con.

You'll save a lot of money in the long run because your life expectancy will be shortened.

Austerity is always placed at the feet of the commoners. 

But in this case it need not be.  Most Thai businesses keep their A/C set at levels of coolest that are ludicrous.  If you need to put a coat or sweater on inside - it is TOO cold. 
Immense amounts of energy could be saved simply by turning the A/C temperature to reasonable levels.  I set mine between 28 to 30.  Reasonably cool levels can be attained between 26 to 30 degrees.  If you need a coat or sweater, turn the temperature to a higher setting.  Banks and doctor's offices seem to be the worst offenders. 

But instead it will be:  "Commoners!  Don't use your air conditioners." 
In the meanwhile government offices will be still remain in the deep-freeze zones.  You can see that a mile away.

Air conditioning can be a necessity for the aged and sick especially during the hot season. Its like the UK need heating for these people during winter and can get winter fuel payments,

 

The sick and aged should be a priority in the extreme heat at this time of year and money should be made available to them.

We only ever have the air con on for 10 minutes every night before sleeping and that's pretty much it.

 

Course I may invest in an Indian Punkawallah if the Indians are about to come in their billions now as the TAT  predict.

Good idea to reduce air conditioning use . At least turn the thermostat up to 25 degrees 

Most of the electricity produced in Thailand is from the use of natural gas . That will have the inevitable result of a price increase .

They could certainly set the thermostats to less frigid temperatures in every 7-11 and similar little shops. Not to mention the cinema. The sweat almost freeze-dries on my back every time I go in there, and when you’re in there for more than three minutes you need long pants, a thick sweater and gloves.

I like going for a #2 at Big C extra.

Toilets are nice and cold.

A/C is always on.
