Pattaya: Police chief calls on attacks on tourists to stop - resort's image badly damaged

All I see is two groups of tourists talking and then Thai security guards come over and start beating them up. My guess is that one of the guys on the motorcycle told the security guard to F off or something and that sparked the violence.

 

The police are coping hard. This was just a security guard with a short fuse looking to beat down foreigners

The police chief, a man of unimpeachable morality, ethics, honor, nobility and compassion, will be listened to by everybody, including the bouncers at clip joints, instructed to rough up tourists who do not pay over inflated bills. 

 

Even when the bill is legitimate, and even when the tourist (customer) is rowdy, that is rarely ever an excuse to beat him up. 

 

So, will the franchisees get to the heart of the problem, and arrest some bouncers or club owners? And if arrested will they be prosecuted? Likely not. The prosecutors are far too busy working on cases concerning water and protestors, keeping Thailand safe and sorry.

I'm surprised they dont just ban news reports on attacks on tourists.  Pattayas image immediately restored to a family friendly resort (was it ever?)

Just imagine if the sterling reputation of Pattaya was damaged, what the repercussions would be? Falling tourism? Businesses closing? Walking street nearly abandoned.

I was there last week no problems of course I wasn't falling down drunk either but I did have a slight buzz

But everyday tourists may not be aware and innocently end up in the middle of such a melee.  Treetown being the main nightlife area now is where these types of incidents will occur.... years ago they were dotted about around town in Songkran. Pattaya: you're never the victim until you're the victim.

 

Could be a thief, a thug, the cops, a wo/man, a condo owner or GH.

 

The rule of Pattaya is that it extracts it's pound of flesh from each resident be they foreign OR Thai. The entire economy is based on ill gotten gains, windfall and of course corruption.

 

The sex workers quickly develop drinking and very possibly drugs problems. Every issarn male has run away from their upcountry family obligations and engaged in anything and everything troublesome.

 

Really unsure what was the last straw for me. I think just low quality lager louts, a spate of bashings for fun on one of those beer bar sois. Walking street started to experience very random and very violent crimes. My flat was broken into my the managers lost and drug addled daughter. He just shrugged. She literally took the emergency keys and entered. Cops did nothing. Owner, decent of her compensated rent for as long as I wanted to stay.

 

The murder and violent death rates in the town are incredibly high considering the population.

 

The girls continue to work infected with chlamydia, gonorrhea and HIV. Especially chlamydia. I knew all the girls on my soi and a few bars as well.

 

Immigration rules entirely different than BKK.

 

Pattaya...It's never you until it's you.

Pattaya will never be what it was early 00s. It had been rapidly changing demographics since 2009. Chinese and Russians (Indians) in [now entirely GONE and not to return], western economies with jaded, economically troubled economies - boomers out.

Pattaya as is is an old boomer town. This lot is old and largely out of money. No one wants to deal with the covididiocy.

 

I've long since said that Pattaya forward is reinventing itself as a bedroom community for Rayong. The dream being to develop the Easter seaboard. Not a bunch of shiftless, paupers in singlets, running shorts and flip flops chasing draft beer happy hours.

Sadly Correct Training in Thailand never seems to happen as with their Driving ( i almost said skills), Police, Teachers, Etc Etc, but they still hand out Licences, aggression seems all they know.

Indeed. Around my Issan village I've been noticing several new constructions, fancy houses on large plots of land. Someone sure is cleaning up on all the fire sales, taking advantage of others' misery and desperation. From what I can tell they're Thai people with the cash, not farangs. Given the situation fewer farangs have been coming, and many in fact have left.

Some years ago I was sitting opposite Soi 8/9 near Police St'n.

When a bouncer walked over to the beach and proceeded to give a sleeping farang a kicking. It was totally unprovoked.

I can see why some Thais are envious and resentful of foreign people whom they perceive as having weathered covid a lot better than them financially, but physical attacks are never OK.  They really need to turn their anger towards the people that actually caused their problems.  (Obviously this is precisely why foreigners are blamed for covid.)

Billions still haven't figured out who their real enemy has been for centuries. So, they take their frustrations, anger out on the nearest person, their own kind, ruling class slaves.
