Surin: Motorcyclist killed after neck becomes entangled in "hanging wires"

Thailand's infamous hanging wires are in the news again after a motorcyclist was killed, reported Daily News. 

 

Bunkert, 40, was riding home along Route 2077 after doing some evening shopping on Thursday.

 

He came off his bike outside Lamduan Hospital. Wires were wrapped around his head and hands.

 

He was unconscious with a severe head injury that led to his death on Friday after he had been in ICU.

His wife Pornthira, 42, said this was a busy road with many motorists. She called on those responsible for the wires to own up.

Locals in the area said that many of the bundles of wires were just precariously hanging waiting for the wind to blow them down. 

 

Lamduan police are investigating to find out who is responsible for the wires that killed Bunkert.

Nobody cares. This happens over and over and over and over again. So few people in Thailand seem to have any pride in the job they do. Any way will do, good or not. What a sad way to live.

I saw that happen once first-hand where wires came down and roped a young woman on a motorbike to the ground. Not seriously injured.

 

It was extremely windy that day so motorbike riders of that should take note.

This concrete truck wasn't concerned about hanging wires when it went straight through a T-junction in Dan Sai yesterday.

I think the home owners will need a lot more concrete when they rebuild their house. At least they are lucky to be alive, I understand the driver didn't survive.

There was another accident this afternoon on the same road nearby. A pickup took out a palm tree which then collected a following motorbike rider. I believe one of them was injured.

Not sure how a helmet would have prevented a low wire from garotting the rider but easier to blame the victim.

Perhaps if the unfortunate man killed by criminal actions by the company responsible for the wires involved in his death had been a doctor then we may see some real action to make those responsible pay .

Equally maybe if the wires had NOT been hanging down there would not have been an accident in the first place.

 

The responsibility for the accident lies 100% with those people responsible for the wires.

One way to find out is to cut big chunks out of each cable and see who turns up o repair them.

On a windy day I came with a hair of wires around my neck. I had on a helmet so my head would fine in the casket. I stopped and found a plastic bag and rock beside the road (not hard) and weighed down the wire.

I gave up on motorbikes after that.

Once the arguments have been played out on whom was responsible those particular cables might be secured properly, meanwhile the rest of Thailand will have to continue dodging death by these hanging below 4 Mt cables, and roads and foot bridges built around power poles. The madness, irresponsibility and not loosing face, continues unabated.  I would also like to point out NO signs at pedestrian crossings STILL !
