Foreigner killed by train: He was lying on the rails drinking and playing on his phone

Muang district police and rescue services in Udon Thani in NE Thailand were called after a Myanmar construction worker was run over by a train.

 

It happened near a construction site in the vicinity of the Nong Bua market junction. 

 

The victim was dressed in a singlet and sarong. Mya Win, 28, had horrific head injuries. There was a bottle of alcohol near the mangled body. 

 

A Thai colleague, Udorn, 28, said that he had seen his friend doing what he often did - play on his phone with his head propped up on the rails.

He thought nothing of this and had a shower and went to bed. He was alerted with the news of what had happened and called the authorities.

 

The police said that it appeared that the man was so engrossed in his phone that he had not heard the arrival of the #417 diesel service that had left Korat at 3.55 pm and was due in at Udon Thani at 9 pm. 

 

The Myanmar embassy and relatives were being informed, reported Siam Rath who reminded their readers of the folly of lying on the tracks.

There’s not really much to say here....   

 

This seems like a suicide apart from the fact that the deceased reportedly did this often. 

Its not as if ’track rails’ are even comfortable.

 

The concern for me is that there are people equally as stupid driving and riding around - now thats frightening.

I think so. Im sure that if not he'd had felt the rail vibrating. Also given where this is, very close to Udon railway station, Im sure they sound the loud horn on approach.

To me , the "friend" report sounds a little fishy.

I imagine this scenario:

Guy is drinking,   gets in fight with friend...

Friend bashes in guy's face,  he doesn't mean to kill him (maybe he does) .... thinks if a way to "hide" the bashed in face... 

Oh ya, the guy always lays with head in tracks,   that's normal
