(CNN)  — An 11-year-old survivor of the Robb Elementary School massacre in Uvalde, Texas, feared the gunman would come back for her so she smeared herself in her friend’s blood and played dead.

Miah Cerrillo spoke exclusively to CNN about her horrific experience that day inside the classroom where the mass shooting took place that killed 19 of her classmates and two of her teachers.

Miah said she and her classmates were watching the movie “Lilo and Stitch” in a classroom shared by two teachers, Eva Mireles and Irma Garcia. The students were finished with their lessons when the teachers got word there was a shooter in the building, she told CNN’s “New Day.”

I have no words when I think of this child ... I only know I feel inside me a wish to hug and protect these kids who survived, and all precious, vulnerable kids.

LOS needs to take decisive action around guns too!

I listened to a US professor specialising in right wing ideologies and their ascension. He mentioned how one of the prime tools of sick fascist cults is to actively promote, and construct an environment where fear/terror prevail so balance is never allowed to be maintained.

This provides space then for those whipped up into fear to look for about for 'the other' in order to project their fears and then it's a short journey to annihilating actions to vanquish 'them' and thus their fears.

He also talked of how one of their inherent goals is to neuter environments where children can be educated unto adulthood to think and discern which is calculated to result in either timid, cowered future victims of fascism or willing stormtroopers  in service to the inhumane autocratic system.

Given the amount of time the police were mulling around, they could have watched "Gone with the Wind."   Law enforcement is going to have to do a lot of spinning to ever explain why they stood around for an hour while children are being shot.

I can only imagine the horror those parents endured and it is 2nd only to the trauma endured by those children.

Terrible terrible tragedy and yes the police appear to have been seriously lacking in their response which may have cost more young lives. However given the racism that appears so prevalent in America was this school multi ethnic and hence been an element in a predominantly white supremist police culture and played apart in the decision making ?

Sad to say this, but it's going to take more killings before people are mad enough to DEMAND something be done. It's always the same ol' rhetoric from the politicians, "Our hearts and prayers go out to all the family members". How about DOING something instead of just talking! I bet if it's was the politicians kids or family getting killed they would be all over the issue immediately and change would happen.

Doing something about it? In the US? You're kidding right?

Many Democrats and liberal types are against stop-and-frisk, and involuntary commitment to mental institutions, armed security on campus because...'racism' or something. [Refer to everything-is-about-racism sentiment in 4th post.]

Gun-owning liberal types don't even blink when deflecting blame to Trump / the NRA because, you know, their gun ownership and use is the sensible, good kind. Not the perverted, sick ownership and use by those freaks claiming they are protecting their families or whatever!

---------------------------------------

Meanwhile, many Republicans and conservative types are against nearly all forms of tighter gun restrictions and anything intruding on their privacy because 'freedom from tyranny' or some sentiment along those lines.

After each high-profile mass shooting, these gun-owning conservatives load up on ammo and more weapons, offering thoughts and prayers while professing an impressive phobia of slippery slopes.

In fact, they're placing the blame exactly where it belongs with Trump and the Republicans, and the gun control record is clear on that.

The Democrat controlled House of Reps in 2021 passed two gun control measures to expand gun purchase background checks. Both passed with mostly all Democrats voting in favor and all but a few Republicans voting NO. The bills were never taken up in the Senate because of Republican opposition, which has been a familiar and ongoing theme.

"While Democratic lawmakers have at various times urged more federal gun reforms -- mostly focused on assault-style or military-grade weapons and munitions and expanding the screening process for who can and cannot have a gun -- Republicans say the focus should be elsewhere, on increasing public security and awareness of mental health and social issues."

"House Democrats vote to approve the first bill along with two Republicans (and two Democrats voting no). All Democrats except for one along with eight Republicans vote yes on the second bill, which previously passed the House in 2019, also under Democratic control."

What are HR 8 and HR 1446? Gun control bills still await Senate votes after Texas shooting

"Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., signaled that he wouldn't bring a vote on gun control legislation this week, because he doesn't expect enough Republican votes."

"The future of both H.R. 8 and H.R. 1446 remains uncertain, particularly because of the projected lack of Republican votes. In the House, both bills received some bipartisan support, but it's unlikely that the Senate will reach the 60 votes required to overcome a filibuster – as most Senate Republicans have historically not supported the increased gun control legislation."

I cannot imagine the horrific situation that this young lady and her friends went through the trauma of which will live with them and their families forever.

And to those little ones that succumbed to insane the gun laws of America RIP.

Peace is something their families will take a long time to find if ever.

Hmmmmmm, don't see the connection,

It's not as if Kennedy/Clinton/Obama changed anything when they had the chance ...... and they were in power longer than Trump.

I'm betting Biden won't change anything either.

^ actually Clinton put a law down restricting assault weapons in 94, it expired in 2004. In that time mass shootings went down significantly

The town is located very near the Mexican border and from all appearances the majority of the town is Hispanic.  Most of the names are Hispanic and most of the children appear to have been Hispanic.  There were a couple of kids killed that appeared not to be Hispanic either by name or appearance.  The shooter was obviously Hispanic.

The police force appears to be mixed with both White and Hispanic and a lot of the Border Patrol agents are of Hispanic background as they need people who can speak Spanish.

I don't think there is anyway of putting a racial edge on this.  The commander who kept them from going in is also Hispanic.   i think the community is around 80% Hispanic or Latino.
