How will the pavements cope with so many gangs of all male, poor people wandering about looking for somewhere not to spend money?

The Indians don't walk on the pavements.

Good to see workers benefitting from the reopening of the Nova Platinum hotel and the surrounding businesses. That area and second road in general was completely shuttered during Covid. Agree with you the ongoing construction completely blights that area with little end in sight.

That is good yes.

But walking around in groups in dark hours of the night in middle of road is less so...wonder what moves (or doesn't) in those guys heads as they behave as if there would be no car or bike traffic on the road at all. Personally I would turn my head like a radar if I were walking there - even on sidewalk - at 2AM. Especially so near walking street at the time people heading off from party...these guys just calmly walk in middle of the road as if it would be normal. Go figure.

indeed - any idea why so?

anyway, maybe a good excuse for no need to maintain sidewalks in near term, the 5M guys walking on roads!

7/11 just reviewed their stock.

Ordered an extra 25 trillion straws and 25000 bottles of beer.

That works out at £1000 per head......hardly the big spenders are they?

You've got to factor in the length of stay into the equation. Like the other Asian/Asean near markets their trips are shorter in length so the spend is over a shorter time period, in India's case between 7/8 days. As a comparison UK tourists which at just under 950k in 2019, ( half the Indian total ), spent US $2.3 billion but that was over 18 days. The average Indian daily spend is slightly higher but they are here for a much shorter period of time.

I think this was one of the main reasons the Thai govt were finally forced to drop the quarantine, with arrivals in the first 3 months of this year being really low and no possibility of the Chinese or Russians returning they knew they had to get the Indians in as the only available high volume market. If you're only coming for a 1 week holiday as the Indians do seems unlikely they would bother if at least 1 day of it was lost to quarantine. As soon as they lifted it, hey presto the Indians appear.

No surprise at the timing of the resumption of diplomatic ties with Saudi Arabia either, today they announced visa free 30 day entry for them. Another of the only few markets around they can get to inject significant money into the tourism sector through low season.

Its not the Pavements coping that worries me.

What about the aisles of the Supermarkets all clogged up with them seeking the Air Con.

Better than bus load of chinese tourists prowling through small Pattay alleys. Also better than half drunk, prostitute wife seekers/sex maniacs bar hopping for their future  brides and passing sexual innuendos to local girls in Baht buses that  they won't dare in London buses.

No single guys are here only for sex but not for finding their future prostitute brides by hopping from bars to  bars and I have never seen them passing sexual innuendos to local girls in baht buses.

They are noticeable in Pattaya- more so than ever before. Indians love music, dance and food, less so alcohol. In my opinion  they are more fun than the Chinese  tourists- freer- more independent- more fun.  The men seem to travel in groups of four.

Holding hands and prowling for ladyboys.

That's about 50 full A340s a day arriving from India, with everyone arriving going to Pattaya!

The famous TAT calculator's batteries must have worn out in making this calculation!
