Popular Post webfact
by Natthaphon Sangpolsit BANGKOK (NNT) - The BOT predicts 6 million foreign tourist arrivals this year and 19 million next year as pandemic-era curbs ease. It also forecasts economic growth of 3.3% this year after seeing 1.5% growth last year. Policymakers have promised that fiscal and monetary settings will continue to support the nascent recovery as vital tourism lags without Chinese tourists, who are unable to visit due to stringent travel restrictions that ban outbound travel. China accounted for over a quarter of the 40 million foreign visitors in pre-pandemic 2019. In contrast to past global tightening cycles, Thailand’s capital markets remain in good shape thanks to much higher foreign reserves and low foreign debt, reducing any immediate pressure to match U.S. rate hikes. Thailand has not seen any net capital outflows this year - instead, its bond and stock markets have drawn net inflows of 157 billion baht. The government also assured that it is not overly concerned with the weak baht, which it noted has been greatly beneficial for the competitiveness of Thailand’s massive export sector. -- © Copyright NNT 2022-06-11 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. blazes
The 19 million may be a bit more "realistic" than TAT, but it's still pie in the sky. (Tbf, all forecasting, all over the world, is pie in the sky, or, more accurately, something equivalent to life in a casino.) Remember in those far-off days of last year how all the Ph.D economist experts were telling us that inflation was only going to be "transitory"? 555555

Udox
I suspect they need to employ a better Fortune Teller. The one they currently have appears to be telling them only what they want to hear.

shackleton
With the cost of living going up around the world I think tourists will be watching their money ???? on the best cheapest places to travel ???? I think Thailand will be looking at the Chinese and Indian markets As Europe and The USA will find travelling more expensive

Popular Post Tony125
I think it is the duty of Asean Now to archive these predictions and at the end of the year say New Years reprint them and see how close the predictions came. War in Ukraine, gas topping $5 a gallon in USA at present, Covid still infecting the world, wanting to close entertainment venues at Midnight, do the powers that be really think that makes for an influx of tourists?

spidermike007
The BOT predicts 6 million foreign tourist arrivals this year and 19 million next year as pandemic-era curbs ease. They literally just make this stuff up. It has no basis in reality, and their credibility is less than zero, at this point. Expect no more than 3 million next year, and no more than 5 million a year, for the next 5-10 years. Everything is changed, no improvements have been made, nothing has been learned, absolutely nothing in the way of sacrifices have taken place, and tourism has been utterly destroyed by extreme cowardice and highly misguided policy. And in addition to that, the very things people were coming here to enjoy, have been diminished. Less nightlife, less color (due to the pasteurization and homogenization of the place), fewer resorts and restaurants, and alot of visible decimation of the economy.

The seating and services seem to congregate closer to the promenade and not cover the full length of the beach as per many years ago. The beach 'reclamation' has also substantially increased the size of the beach. I think it is a great resource now... they need to get the water cleaned up though.... Hot as hell yesterday and that is why it is quiet.
