Popular Post mtsr Posted June 16, 2022 Popular Post Posted June 16, 2022 Hey all, I just completed a visa run to Savannakhet for a non O based on Marriage on the 14th of June. I flew from Bangkok to Ubon, bus to Mukhdahan, bus to Laos and vica versa. Things needed to enter Laos: * Passport * One picture * Immigration form (can just get it there) * Proof of vaccination * 2000B Things needed to apply for the Visa: * Passport and a copy * 2 Passport pictures * Visa application form (across the street of the embassy for 10B) * Original and copy of marriage certificate. (They take a look at the original on the spot and hand it back) * Copy of spouse's ID * Copy of spouse's Passport (hers was expired but nothing was Mentioned of it) * Copy of house registration with spouse's name on it * 5000B multiple entry (the form does not have the option. I wrote multiple entry in pen next to the visa type option, mentioned it to the officer and handed over 5000B) That's it. I had 400K in the bank and brought a bank statement with me to be sure. But to try it out I didn't mentioned anything of it and they never asked. Things needed to get back into Thailand: * Passport + visa * Covid vaccination proof * Thai pass (mine got approved in 2 hours time) That's about it. Nothing at all to do in Savannakhet. I stayed in the B2 hotel. Newly opened, very good price and friendly owner. Can highly recommend. They forgot to give me a receipt when I handed over my passport and the payment. My dumbass didn't notice until much later. I was somewhere in the front of the line on the day when I went to pick up my passport. Mentioned I did not get a receipt and handed over my Thai driving license as ID. I just had to wait for the whole line of people picking up their visa before they called me and gave me mine. The receipt for 5000B was in the passport :). On the day when I went to submit my application there was a guy in front of me having a problem with his application. I overheard only parts. But it had something to do with not having a flight ticket to leave Thailand. I overheard him saying that he has been in Thailand for long and that he's not planning to leave. He was probably on covid extensions before this or something and now applying for a tourist visa. He had to come back later with a plane ticket :). Don't try to beat the system... Hope this might help someone. 19 9
PJ71 Posted June 16, 2022 Posted June 16, 2022 Excellent report and great news, saves dealing with the immigration gestapo for extennsion. They needed your wife's passport, this is new, previously only ID card.
Popular Post Wongkitlo Posted June 16, 2022 Popular Post Posted June 16, 2022 Thanks for going to the trouble to report 4
MaiDong Posted June 16, 2022 Posted June 16, 2022 Was there a request by the consulate to view a flight ticket belonging to you too?(applying for a non O) Or just the other fella? (Presumably applying for a tourist visa) 1
nightfox Posted June 16, 2022 Posted June 16, 2022 I used to do yearly Non O visa runs to Savannakhet as I live only couple of hours from the boarder but stopped as it works out costing more than using an agent to extend your marriage visa as you have to leave the country every 90 days, 5K for the Non O visa, 2K Lao visa, hotel, transportation can all add to more than 20,000 bht +. I extended my yearly marriage visa, hassle free for 15,000 bht using immigration them self cutting out the agent as why use an agent as I went to the source as many immigration offices in Issan will offer a special service to extend your visa if you don't have the 400K in the bank or in my case I had it in the bank but not for the 2 month requirement needed. 2

I can even imagine that in cases where your spouse has no passport due to never having left the country that would be ok as well.

Bigz Posted June 16, 2022 Posted June 16, 2022 Thanks for this report. What proof of vaccination do they ask? Is the paper slip enough you get after Vax or you need a proper vaccine passport?

tubber Posted June 17, 2022 Posted June 17, 2022 Did they not ask for the Kor Ror 2 stating you are still married? They were asking for that the last time I went before Covid.

SunsetT Posted June 17, 2022 Posted June 17, 2022 Very informative, /thank you. So the Laos visa is 2k thb now. Did you happen to notice how much it is in $? It used to be cheaper.
nightfox Posted June 17, 2022 Posted June 17, 2022 13 hours ago, ifmu said: very nice thanks for adding to thread .. dm me about agents if possible wait do we have dm ? You don't need an agent. Just ask your local immigration officer that you don't have the 400K in your bank and see what they say as more likely they will tell you that they can act as an agent/money fixer for you.
ndreamer Posted June 17, 2022 Posted June 17, 2022 Did entry visa change ? it was all was always $30ish usd or 1500baht. Paying in USD being cheaper. 2k baht to laos is nearly double

All documents thoroughly checked before even getting in the door.

Not sure about that. Have asked many agents up my way, Udon, and no agent will touch an extension by marriage due to the heavy scruitiny in the main office in Khon Kaen. They will cop a sling for a retirement visa anywhere in the range of 15-20 k even with no funds but they wont go near a marriage with a 10 foot pole. Which is why i go to Savvanakhet Edited June 17, 2022 by starky

Which is why i go to Savvanakhet Agents in Issan all know not to use khoen Kean immigration for marriage extensions. They use Mahsarakam, Kalasin, Shakon Nakon and others because they are easier to work with. The agent I used to do previous marriage extension for me is based in khoen Kean and doesn't use their office and she does a lot of marriage extensions per month.
cyril sneer Posted June 17, 2022 Posted June 17, 2022 Helpful info How do you get from Ubon to Mukdahan? Daytime bus? My flight arrives there 7pm and wanted to jump straight on a bus but read that they stop in the evening
