Thai secondary student hides cannabis in a water bottle for school

Dr. Sutheera Uerpairojkit, a paediatrician at Ramathibodi Hospital, posted the story on her Facebook page of a secondary student who secretly brought cannabis to school in a water bottle and locked the classroom at lunchtime to smoke it, in the latest report of minors’ accessing the decriminalised drug.

BA.4 and BA.5 COVID sub-variants may become dominant in Thailand

Medical Sciences Department Director-General Dr. Supakit Sirilak has predicted that the COVID-19 Omicron BA.4 and BA.5 sub-variants are likely to become dominant in Thailand,after random testing of 948 Omicron cases last week showed 489 BA.4 and BA.5 infections, 447 BA.2 infections, 10 BA.1 and two B.1.1.529 infections.

Thailand’s opposition warned against debating Myanmar warplane incursion

Government chief whip Nirote Sunthornlekha has warned the opposition that the plan by some of its MPs to question the government over last week’s incursion by a Myanmar MiG-29 jet into Thai airspace, over Tak province, may undermine the country’s national security, which could be deemed a criminal offence.

Intensive clashes in Myanmar near Tak ease leaving locals near the border rattled and on guard

Last Thursday, two Royal Thai Air Force F16 fighter jets were scrambled as a Mig 19 jet from the Myanmar Air Force made a 4 km to 5 km incursion into Thai air space. This drew a calm response from Prime Minister Prayut Chan ocha (left) after representations were made to the under-fire Myanmar junta.

Thailand expects number of visitors to increase to 50,000 per day

The Thai government expects 50,000 visitors per to arrive day during high season as the daily number of arrivals at Suvarnabhumi Airport has increased after the lifting of the Thailand Pass at the beginning of July.

Marijuana latest: Thais warned not to take weed and hemp products to 25 countries

Students at school on Thai-Myanmar border undergo air raid drills

A Thai archaeologist has embarked on a mission to reclaim a bronze sculpture, believed to be of Khmer King Jayavarman VI, from a museum in the United States. Tanongsak Hanwong, leader of the Samnuek 300 Ong conservation group, is collecting evidence to prove that the valuable antique originated in Thailand, but was smuggled abroad by antique traders.

Thailand’s state hospitals told to prepare for surge in COVID-19 infections

An urgent directive has been issued by Public Health Permanent Secretary Kiattibhoom Vongrachit to all state hospitals, instructing them to prepare spare beds, equipment, medication and manpower to cope with a potential new wave of COVID-19 infections.
