Are you seriously talking about Thailand run by someone who committed Treason to take over a Kingdom by force. Really Quality govt. ??

You must be an American. Most Brits recognize sarcasm.

Note: apologies if you are not American. A rule of thumb being Americans don't get sarcasm or irony.

Which minister in any country doesn't take what they can get?

100 % right. It´s just that it´s a little bit easier here, and they actually get away with doing out in the open.

Yep, nice work if you can get it.

I wonder if all committee members get an allowance.

It's a common practice in many areas of government / government agencies.

I was a  confirmed member of a Ph.D. dissertation committe at 2 Thai unis for several years. There's no salary, members get paid a meeting allonce for every meeting/student dissertation presentation.

Sometimes the standard allowance is for 1 maybe 2 hrs & any further time is paid at an additional pro-rata amount.

And sometimes it's a fixed amount regardless of the total time taken.

Remember they also get extra for being the Minister in charge of certain ministries, so Prayut is the PM but also the Defense minister as well.  One paycheck is all these folks need. Yet it is the same in the US for being on certain boards as a member.....

and maybe still collect the salary from the Army... Pension/salary for a general must pay quite well
