Yes, very true.  I lived in the US for a few years and I found them  extraordinarily friendly, welcoming and very open people.  But of course, I wasn't living among the lunatics and red necks that fill many parts of that great country.

I visited the states very  many times during my career so generally agree with you. From my experience whist holidaying there in the early 80's I simply loved the friendliness and laid back lifestyle of the folks living in the Keys, I wonder if that has now changed ?

Keep an eye on Idaho, there has been secession buzz out of there for decades.  Also there is an idea floating about for the State of Idaho to expand into a neighboring blue state, or two. 

I have the impression they (whatever part of the Federal gov't handles this sort of thing) had not even been thinking about a such happening in modern times, not until 1/6.  Now of course I would expect these matters are getting attention.

some states tried it in the past and were coerced back into the union.  Seceeding unilaterally is not allowed.  It is now a federation of states rather than a confederation.

 

Furthermore, while each state has its own national guard with the same weaponry as national forces theoretically to defend itself including against the Federal government the national guards are now integrated into the federal military command structure and governors would find it very difficult to direct their forces independently.

Trump’s central ground likely to be oligarchy. Still worse than progressive. Think about it. He is anti-immigrant and anti-black policies, refused to denounce his most extreme and violent supporters from the neo-Nazis and white nationalists in Charlottesville to the Proud Boys. He also planning to gut the DOJ with his loyalists to go after his enemies and not his friends. You support those kind of egregious actions.
