Trump under investigation for potential violations of Espionage Act

The rumors about the types of classified top secret documents recovered are very disturbing. If true, it is difficult to imagine what would have motivated Trump to take those documents with him after he left the presidency. It sounds like the primary value of that type of info would be to foreign adversaries. What use files of this nature would have had for Trump personally is hard to fathom.

 

The man is a menace to America, freedom, democracy, and truth. He belongs in jail for inciting the January 6th riot, Georgia election interference, tax and insurance fraud in New York, violation of record keeping and espionage laws. There is a strong possibility that he has been compromised by Russia. Anyone still supporting this vile and corrupt man is a brainwashed fool.

The Republicans had four very sound opportunities to put distance between themselves and Trump.

 

Two impeachments.

Certification of the election result.

Condemnation of the J 6 attack.

Well, she kind of has a point. Instead of Merrick Garland signing off on the search warrant, it should have been done by the Attorney General....oh wait a minute.

There was no love lost between Macron and Trump. Their relationship deteriorated early on in Trump's presidency and never recovered. Hard to believe the file on Macron was kept for sentimental purposes. As far as I know, and correct me if I'm wrong, but all former Presidents hold security clearances for life.  If that is indeed true then that would destroy the theory of your post.

-A document about pardoning Roger Stone, a staunch Trump ally who was convicted in 2019 of lying to Congress during its probe of Russian meddling in the 2016 election. The Stone-related material taken from Mar-a-Lago was listed in the warrant receipt as "Executive Grant of Clemency re: Roger Jason Stone, Jr."
-Material about the "President of France."

As far as I know, and correct me if I’m wrong, but lots of people have security clearance, it doesn’t give them any rights to remove top secret documents from the place those documents belong and keep them at their own homes.

They have known since the minute he left office that the held top secret documents. He just wouldn't give them back so they seized them. It's as simple as that, no conspiracy here, sorry.

If Trump did in fact order the declassification, he still needed to make sure his staff took the necessary next steps to modify the classification markings on the documents before he could actually handle and store the records (as a private citizen) as if they were unclassified. Under security classification rules, a classification marking on a document has to be treated as valid and binding unless and until a subsequent marking replaces it. Appropriate government staffers would have needed to cross out the classification markings in the headers and footers, and stamped “declassified” on the record noting when it was declassified, by whom and under what authority. Since that does not appear to have been done with the classified documents reportedly identified to date, the documents remain classified and had to be treated as classified for handling and storage purposes.

POTUSs NEVER have a security clearance, not even as POTUS. Getting elected is considered proper vetting. Everyone else fills out an SF86 and goes through a long check. In the agency that also involves a poly, plus repeat polys at anytime security so chooses.

 

Never having had a clearance, POTUSs are not suddenly given one after getting beat. As a courtesy, sometimes intel is shared with an ex-POTUS, especially if that ex might have special insight.  Nobody is ever going to think 45 has insight into anything, so no intel is ever going to be shared with him.
