snoop1130 Posted September 8, 2022 Posted September 8, 2022 The hopes of non-governmental organisations to strip senators of the right to select the prime minister after the next election have been dashed, after parliament rejected their bill to amend Section 272 of the Constitution. The Bill, initiated by former election commissioner Somchai Srisutthiyakorn and NGOs and seconded by more than 50,000 people, received 356 votes from senators and MPs at their joint meeting on Wednesday, which is short of the 364 minimum required for the passage of the Bill. 102 MPs and 151 senators voted against the bill, while 45 senators and five MPs abstained. Jerno Posted September 8, 2022 Posted September 8, 2022 Why would Senators originally appointed by Pray-hoot and his cronies vote for this ammendment? Senators looking to reduce their power and influence? Not a chance. 2
SABloke Posted September 8, 2022 Posted September 8, 2022 Surely the senators should not have been included in this vote???? 2
mrfill Posted September 8, 2022 Posted September 8, 2022 Shock news... turkeys didn't vote for Christmas 1
Popular Post Chang_paarp Posted September 8, 2022 Popular Post Posted September 8, 2022 That was surprisingly close, it was a majority of those who voted, just 8 votes short of the number needed. It was only the 50 abstentions that stopped it going forward. 3

Yeah like these guys are going to vote in favour of getting rid of their cash cow. The only way this gets changed is if the next government has a huge majority and uses the power to appoint people that are not self absorbed. Yeah I know TIT same thing in Canada asking them to agree to election or term limits for senators.
spidermike007 Posted September 9, 2022 Posted September 9, 2022 The rot and the corruption continue. Getting rid of the toxic army influence in Thai politics, once and for all, seems to be the only solution. 2

Andycoops Posted September 9, 2022 Posted September 9, 2022 They were hardly going to vote themselves out of a cushy number that has no accountability to the citizens. 1
