Thanks for the fab links. However, I was not say that noone else had history! I visited Poland some years ago and had a great time visiting some of the oldest buildings I have ever been in. It was great.

ps If you look at the Wikipedia page you'll see that the church was built up very slowly. In fact chances are there's none of the original left.

Another fine example of Magnificent Buildings and some history in the link, as this fine sentinel guards the eastern entrance to the City.

Although it has a fine old age to it, it is thought that the plinths, from a local quarry called Headington Hard are still the original, from it's inception.

Although I would agree, the vast majority, particularly those with external faces would have been restored or replaced, as was the tower, I know I was there at its last restoration. :o

Magdalene College

I visited what was supposed to be the oldest wooden church in the world (also in Poland, I think) and the tour guide guaranteed us that none of the original timbers were there. A bit like my Grandma's axe, it's had 5 handes and two heads replaced, but it's still my Grandma's axe!

A bit like Triggers Broom then. :o

Lad's.

This is Mossfinn's thread.

Go and play History elsewhere would ya?

'Else you won't get no supper.

:o But Moss is playing, too, Fluff. He showed us Magdalene College. Wow, the cloister ceilings are fantastic. I just love to see and touch old things (not you, Kayo).

Your granma's axe reminds me of a good story, Tiggy. Just moved to London from Tokyo and had some teak furniture delivered from my first Thai holiday. They left it in the crate in the stairwell! My landlady was having a tizzy. Went to the downstairs neighbour to borrow a hammer to get the crates apart. Crikes! Broke the hammer at the shaft. Returned to neighbour apologising profusely, saying I will replace it (lady is 75, LSE grad who worked in codes and ciphers during WWII, I found out later). She says, "That was my grandfather's hammer, it's an heirloom." Oh, sh*t. Next day, I bought bouquets of roses for her and landlady, and had to get the mailboy to find me a new hammer (sure, hot commodity in central London). Anyway, made amends and the woman became my theatre, museum, arts, and history pal.

Oops! Sorry, Moss. Um, I don't have any photos to show.

That mound thing looks like a Korean burial mound for royalty. But what is it, then, FS?

Truly a lovely lady, Tig. We even went to an installation art show somewhere in the East End and we both looked at each other and had the biggest laugh. One exhibit looked like the piles of laundry I sort every Saturday afternoon.

Oh ya, where is that wonderful building, TAWP? The wiki reference is in Polish or something.

Hi, Tutsi! I see you there! Wow, how's it going? If you can't answer, do one ping only. 555

I wonder how many hoagies and cheesesteaks one could get through Thai customs?

Malmoe, Sweden. The text is in Swedish which incidently is not at all related to polish. =)

Yeah right, it was in 'foreign', okay! :o

Sh*t, and I'm a quarter Swedish. Well, if they would have said skol or vodka, I would have got it.

Well I'm one hundred per cent Irish and I knew it was Swedish!!!

Yes I do, just a stones' throw away. Europe is such a small place, I think I'll vist Sweden this afternoon for a cup of tea and a scone!

typical of this generation.

You'll go and have a cuppa tea somewhere foreign, but you won't pop down to cambridge...

Is it cos we're Anglican?

Is it cos we're Anglican?

Booger, and I invited you into my house.

Hope the buildings of this old city will bring you to your senses just like your off-shoot of a religion, so is that young city of yours, just an off-shoot of the master itself.
