If that was the line up it would be a good investment. The way pattaya going these days you would waste all that money on a bunch of porky, tatted up skanks.

I would say entirely the opposite, It's those without wit that need to spend a lot of money to keep themselves occupied. I'm happy enough sitting around reading a book, listening to music with a beer in my hand. The books and music are all free (thanks internet), and I can't manage more than 3 beers in a day. 5

You only post nonsense ????…..and spoken like one who has lived on a small budget! I certainly agree that wit is a great advantage when making best use of time when funds are limited; I, and several friend, have done just that. However, that same wit can/should be used in the event of a windfall/improved circumstances to enhance the quality of life further. When you refer to those who ‘need’ to spend money to keep occupied, you are talking about the witless……… don’t confuse the two.

Sure, when I was 40 I would have liked a sailing boat to circle the world, too old for that now. In my 60s, I need/want less. My jet-setting days are over, no matter how much money I have. rickudon
I came to Thailand when i was made redundant/retired, because i could see that retirement in Britain was going to mean watching every penny ..... In Thailand the first few years were good, but life is slowly going back to watching pennies (low interest rates, inflation greater than income, big Thai family doesn't help). Would like just enough more so that i do not need to check the bank account before any big purchase, and go on holiday with the family whenever i wanted. Another 20,000 baht a month would cover that. If more, would spend more time back in UK and would have enough to fund my daughters University education.

I agree with virtually all of that. I also believe that you have to experience life on a budget to be able to understand the value of money. My income is 7x what it was when I moved to Thailand. I am not 7x times happier - or, more accurately, 7x more content - but I am able to do more things and have more choices. I will not be buying a sailing boat ????

Dexxter
If I had a lot more money, I doubt I would change my lifestyle too much. My kids would just get more when I die. Perhaps get a new car to replace my 22 year old Ford. Maybe move to a more luxurious apartment on a very high floor, but I like where I live and know all the neighbors. In a high-rise you know nobody. I do enjoy the views you get from a 70th floor window. Maybe eat out more often but I am lazy to go out, and enjoy cooking. However, I would probably buy much better quality wines instead of the cheap ones I drink now. Travel? I have been to 30 more countries and to be honest, most places end up looking the same after a while. Probably me becoming jaded or bored with travel. Health? I would start buying private health insurance so I don't have to rely on the free public system. I can already afford it but am too stingy. Yacht? Ferrari? Helicopter? Big mansion? Other luxury items? Not interested. I am practical and no need to show off my wealth. My kids will already inherit more than enough to make them more comfortable in life, unless I decide to splurge and spend my assets. ????
GammaGlobulin
If I had more money, significantly more, the first thing I would do would be to contact Elon Musk. My dream, since age 9, has always been to be the first man on Mars. In addition, I have always been intrigued with the concept of The One-way Ticket option. Just going to Mars is not expensive. It is in the return from Mars where costs become astronomical, not to mention the logistical difficulties. One of the greatest achievements I have witnessed, to date, is seeing American rovers on the Red Planet. These days, with inflation, floods, heat waves, and TikTok, if I had more money, then I would very seriously consider being the first man on Mars. The one-way travel time might be about 9 months. After that, with food and water rationing, I could live another two years, maybe more. After two years, then planet Earth might send me more supplies. Or, not. If I had more money, then that's what I'd do. Some guys work so hard for a few minutes of fame. But, if I had more money, and if I landed on Mars, I would be more famous, even, than Bowie. Of course, a trip to Mars, like this, might be lonely. Still, with 7 billion people paying attention to me, heading out to Mars, I would not be lonely for long. Being the first man on Mars would be so far better than to be an idiot climbing Mt. Everest, just another of the group climbing for the umpteenth time, only to be frozen, for decades, somewhere below the peak. And, for what? Some might wonder, why go to Mars. For that matter, why go to the Moon? In fact, knowing what we do about life, then why do anything, at all? LaosLover
We're on a diff time frame and budget than a lot of people: we will stay here 2-3 years on a budget of $4,500 (excluding $800 a month med insurance for 2). It's very hard to spend $100 a day here, so I can do whatever I want, and the money still piles up. Yesterday was a relatively expensive day: spliff (800 baht), 2 seafood meals with a cocktail (900 baht), a nice room with a pool and gym (800 baht). massage (300 baht). When my wife gets here, maybe then it's $100 a day, but that's for paying top dollar for everything over living like a local, as we eventually will. We intend to eat in every single 5* restaurant in Bangkok and have booked Gaggan for $800 for the two of us (includes tip).
