Haven't been in Thailand since 2019, is it worth a visit atm? (un'vax'xed un'test'ed etc.)

How is the current requierement situation upon arrival at Swampie, domestic airtravel and Pattaya and Chiang Mai? Are there any restrictions?

If Thailand is still not the Land of the Free it used to be, I don't mind waiting another while.

Or are there any recommended, alternative destinations in SEA?

Thanks!

Just arrived a couple of days ago, nothing was asked for on entry or departure. Thailand has no requirements, just make sure the airline that you fly on doesn't have any

I would give it a miss for now.

90% mask compliance in the streets ...little foot traffic outside.

Btw...are some hotels still asking for the vaxx?

Other forum members might want to chime in on this one.

It's true, I'm currently double masked.

The base mask is a normal market bought mask but the covering mask is a Gucci original. ????

Coupled with my cream chiffon trousers, I'm viewed as 'quite the fashion hound' when shopping around the Pak Nam suburbs.

To be honest I haven't been to any tourist areas recently but for my own area (a main market town), I cannot recall seeing anyone outside without a mask on since the pandemic first kicked in.

The convenience stores and supermarkets here still have the temperature check at the doors and nothing has really changed from mid pandemic days.

Not true. Where you get this from? Make it up?

No hotels ask about vaccines. Nobody cares anymore except the paranoid.

Hotels want u to wear a mask for check in and in lift. Take it off when walking around.

Thailand asks for vaccine proof in airports. The airlines just follow the laws.

Step away from the tourist areas and it's a completely different story.

I understand that in Pattaya, Phuket, certain areas of Bangkok, etc, masks are the rarity but this does not go for the vast majority of Thailand.

As mentioned in my post above, I have been in a busy non tourist area for the entirety of the pandemic and since the mask rules came into place, I haven't seen one person out in public without a mask on.

Even within Bangkok, it depends where you are whether everyone is in masks or not.

Didn't state he needs to wear a mask, simply stated, 'it would annoy him'.  Judging from his OP, just seeing the sheep cowering & complying can affect some folks' 'happy thoughts' while among them.

I'm crossed between chuckling & feeling sorry for them.  Just another embarrassing human example of extreme ignorance ... IMHO  Have to laugh, since the reality of it is simply too sad.

Simply explains the state of the world, which I try not to participate in.

No, you don't need to wear a mask 95% of the time.  I rarely do.  At the mall yesterday, and didn't bother; Swensen's (2 for 1 Tuesday), Lotus (as usual, no purchase, but next door).  Don't wear at 7-11 anymore, just at Makro (nose exposed).  Makro, being around fresh, unpackaged produce.  The reason I tell myself, though can't get in within a mask anyway.  No real enforcement once in.

I read tourist don't bother in most locations, but that doesn't mean the OP wouldn't be mentally distressed simply seeing the silliness of others.  Especially if visiting the metros, Krung Thep and malls, where still screening when entering ????

Some hotels were demanding the vax a year ago.

Btw...have you checked into one in the past year and a half or just making stuff up?

Obviously, the more ppl give info on this issue the better.

Went to 4 towns nobody cares

Where does your info come from? Bkk only?

I never sent to bkk

Phuket no problem

Cm no problem

Isaan no problem

Flew back to chiang mai on 5th Sept with Airasia, no vaccination certificate required on check in.

Thats a personal choice. Nothing to do with laws. Most in Isaan no masks. Bkk population is high, lots of paranoid people there.

OK, I actually live here, away from the tourist areas and I'm just telling you what it is like here.

Why would I want to lie about the current local mask situation?

Have you been around or stayed in my area (a main market town in Samutprakarn)?

If I walk outside of my office now, out onto the main road running through the area, I can guarantee that just like yesterday and the previous 600 days, everyone (and I do mean everyone) will be wearing a mask.

How can what I see in front of me, with my own eyes, be nonsense?

Also, other posters who live here are posting the same story.

Please note that I did acknowledge that the tourist areas will be different, why don't you open your mind up to the fact that the places in Thailand that you haven't visited might not be the same as the places that you have actually visited?

Because its 1 town

Because its not law but rather personal choice

Have u been in isaan this week? No

Phuket? No

Cm? No

Tourists need to care about laws not count the no of mask wearers

You have very limited knowledge of Thailand, You don't even realize how big and busy Samutprakarn is.

You haven't been to the non tourist areas in Bangkok (the places where the locals live).

You are clueless about Thailand outside of a couple of back-water villages and tourist areas (Phuket, CM).

Just a clueless tourist who thinks that he knows Thailand than the ex-pats who live here.

Thais are still pretending its the black plague, compliance in bangkok is higher than 95%, I would go a surrounding country instead for now heard Vietnam is pretty much back to normal, there's a very small hope it changes here on the 1st October if government downgrade causes the news presenters and influencers to demask but it's more probable Thailand remains a mask mecca into 2023

True. Like it or not.

I stopped silly mask wearing on the bike but also have to accept grannys on bicycles with mask!

Lotus Makro all masked.

Of course mask in all government, banks etc

And from the OP I suggest: find another country. Not only for the mask topic.

Land of the free?

Haha

8 years under the rule of a coup general.

Only Thai covid laws matter which are normally countrywide.

Whether 10% or 90% of locals where a mask is not important.

Why would a tourist care about stuff that isnt important?

I'm in north-central Thailand, not a tourist area.  About half the people here go without masks outdoors.  No one expresses any negativity regarding the fact that I am not wearing one.  I walk into Makro and BigC without a mask, no problem--even though, in those places, it is very rare to go without.  It's not mandatory, and they don't attempt to enforce it.  Except when visiting a very sick friend in the hospital recently who is basically on life support, I haven't worn a mask in months (and I wore the mask there for my friend's comfort--not for my own protection).

I've never been asked anywhere about the vaccine, but I haven't stayed in hotels or gone to any airports.  I'm aware of unvaxxed friends who have traveled abroad and back, passing through quarantine upon their return, but that was before quarantines were lifted.  I don't know what requirements might be in place now for the unvaxxed.

Regarding covid--it's still spreading like the common flu around here.  Everyone will eventually be exposed, no doubt.  I've had it, but every time I'm around someone who's fresh with it, it seems that some of the sniffles recur (fortunately not much beyond that)--and it matters not whether one is wearing a mask or not, the contagion goes right through these paper masks.

Pointless in talking if you are not listening.

Wrong. Ive been to bkk 20 times. Spent heaps of time in non tourist areas.

Your info is based on "personal choice" not Thai laws

I speak Thai, married Thai over 15 years.

I care about Thai laws not whether Somchai likes masks or not.

1 which thai laws say tourists have to wear masks all the time, point out the legislation

2 which thai laws say tourists have to show vaccine proof in hotels or bars?

Dont tell me you saw 99/100 people wearing a mask in a street. Thats not important.

People sitting in airport no mask!

Why would an expat in cm be an expert on trang?

A tourist who went there 3 times would know more than an expat who never went.

I wouldnt ask a Thai who lives in Phitsanulok to know much about Koh Chang unless they went there.

Don't know why farangs who live in Thailand think they know everything.
