It was a stunt. A very mean spirited one at that. Migrants will usually try to head where they have existing connections especially family if they have any. As far as Venezuelans they can't be deported back to Venezuela and probably most of them that have connections have them in Florida. Remember when republicans were supportive of refugees from authoritarian regimes when those regimes were communist? An exception was when Castro specifically shipped over LGBT Cubans, the republicans did not like that at all.

The mistake these Venezuelans made was arriving in 2022, when the Republicans are demonizing immigrants and refugees.  If they had arrived in 2020, when the Republicans were demonizing Venezuela and socialism, they might have been welcomed with open arms.

 

In fact, by using refugees from a brutal, failed socialist government as pawns in his political games, DeSantis may have alienated a great many Latino voters who also fled socialism.  They are an important swing vote in Florida.

The immigrants/refugees were rounded up in Texas using lies and abandoned in Martha's Vineyard (not where they were told they were going) without any assistance.  That means part of the illegal actions took place in Texas.

 

Hopefully someone in Florida will investigate the use of taxpayer money that was supposed to be used to keep illegal immigrants out of Florida (enforcing laws against hiring illegal immigrants would have done that) for an election campaign stunt.

The lawsuit, filed in federal court in Boston, alleges that the migrants were told they were going to Boston or Washington, “which was completely false,” and were induced with perks such as $10 McDonald’s gift certificates.

“No human being should be used as a political pawn,” said Ivan Espinoza-Madrigal, executive director of Lawyers for Civil Rights, which is seeking class-action status in the lawsuit filed on behalf of several migrants who were aboard last week’s flights and Alianza Americas, a network of advocacy groups.

There is every resource available on Martha's Vineyard year round.  There are for sure 50 jobs available as well. Two things.  Where is your source that these people were vetted?  A significant portion of migrants show up with no papers at all.

Secondly, asylum has become the "magic word" that those who are pushing illegal migration tell the migrants to use.  At one time it was "families" and unaccompanied males were rejected so they showed up with children many times not their own but rented so that they would be a "family" 

One way or another in less than two years 5.4 million people have swarmed across into the USA.  That is a population greater than New Zealand, Ireland, or Norway.  That is not immigration.  That is an invasion. 

Calling these people undocumented immigrants is as disingenous as calling a drug dealer an undocumented pharmacist, or someone who breaks into your home an undocumented guest.  

IT IS AGAINST THE LAW to enter the USA without proper authorization.  If they are truly assylum seekers and can prove it, they should apply and have their cases heard.  Not just make some unvetted claim about needing asylum and then letting them vanish within the borders of the USA to be somebody elses problem.
